Ajax Bike & Sport will likely succumb to the development frenzy that has become business-as-usual in Aspen. With rents skyrocketing over the last decade, locally owned businesses hardly have a fighting chance.
“It’s all about the landlords making money, and not about good businesses that have been in town for years,” Ajax Bike owner, Craig Peterson, said in a recent Aspen Times article. “How many businesses do we have to see go?”

When’s the last time you enjoyed your own company? It’s actually kind of hard in a small town. If you’ve lived in Aspen 10 years, like I have, it’s quite difficult to be left alone. Sometimes, I like going to dinner by myself, bringing a book or a magazine and getting into my own head and space for awhile, but there will inevitably be a waiter that I know by face, and three people at the next table that I totally know, also enjoying the bar special, and when the bartender yells out that it’s time for shots, I feel loved and amongst friends but also wonder if there’s anywhere I can go where no one knows my name.

I am experiencing allergies for the first time in my life. This is my third Spring in Aspen and yet my first with allergies. I visualize my eyes like swirling fireballs. I sneeze so much around the office people don't even bother to "bless me" anymore and I don't blame them. Josh, the morning dj and guy in the office next to mine, says I just do it for attention and that he blanketly will not be blessing me anymore.

Do we have the makings of a classic political race the likes of Hunter S. Thompson’s 1970 bid for Sheriff? Magnuson may not have the gonzo persona of Thompson, nor does he have the backing of a larger movement the likes of Aspen’s once notorious “Freak Power Party,” under which Hunter ran his campaign, but he is an artist and that alone is intriguing.

THE WEEKLY FABRICATION
In an odd twist to an already bizarre string of events “Johnny Do-Do,” as he has been dubbed by Aspen locals, contacted the press demanding that a letter “explaining his beliefs” be published by at least one local media outlet.
Over the past two months Johnny Do-Do has been linked to three separate incidents in which a dog owner was attacked with dog feces after they neglected to pick up after their pet.

Freeskier Charlie Gaylord has touched thousands across the country, including me. I met him last year at Snowmass through his girlfriend Jamie Britt (a rad skier herself) and immediately liked him. He is a skier at heart, one of those guys with a permanent smile on his face.

Ah, the off-season. My favorite time of year. A well deserved break after another degrading winter of service industry labor.
