Great Coffee and Triathlons…A Message From The Front Range

I am writing this blog from Cannon Mine Coffee Shop in Lafayette, CO…it’s one of the “L” towns surrounding Boulder…Longmont, Louisville (pronounced lewis-ville, not louie), and Lafayette. This coffee shop is so endearing. A part of me never wants to leave. Free internet for one. Great coffee for two. Walking distance to my sister’s house. And Dave Matthews playing. Not bad. This place has that great vibe that comes from a coffee house built and run by people who care. They hope to make money, but that’s not the sole driving force. They have live music coming this Friday night…I saw the sign taped to the mirror in the ladies restroom. Ladies, note, there is a skinny mirror in the bathroom at the coffee shop. You know what I’m talking about. I am 5’2” and 135. This mirror makes me look 5’4” and 120. I’m all about it.
I am visiting the Front Range because I did my first triathlon yesterday. It was in Golden. It was actually fun and quite do-able for a non-crazy fit person like myself. Someone who generally likes to be active, but not setting any kind of records. I did it with my sister, Becky. It was also her first triathlon. We both had PRs in the pool (personal records), but she beat me by about three minutes in the end. I’ll get her next time. Or, I won’t. We both discussed how that’s not what it is all about. There is such a great energy at the some of the races around here. The Bolder Boulder is a 10K held every Memorial Day. I’ve done it three or four times and they are just fun. Free massage afterward too.
