A committee of teachers, students, parents and school administrators oversee the Distinguished Teacher Awards selection process.
When this program was originally announced, Dick Butera said: “In Aspen, we strive for the best in many things – skiing, restaurants, dance, music – but the schools have been largely ignored by first and second homeowners alike. With the resources in this community, Aspen’s school system should be the finest in the country.”

The Sixth Annual Distinguished Teacher Awards are being announced on Tuesday (8:30am at the District Theatre (middle school) and 1pm at District Theatre (high school). This is the sixth year that the awards are being given to teachers whose dedication and passion for teaching inspires their students and their peers.
Each teacher receives a cash grant of $10,000 that they can use as they want. Part of the idea behind the program is to reward teachers monetarily for their excellence, but also to receive the recognition they deserve throughout the community.
