Mayor Calls Halt To Fake Survey
July 25th, 2006 at 05:19am Post Staff 43
Mayor Helen Klanderud is still trying to find out who is behind a survey about the future of Aspen taken over the phone under false pretenses.
Sitting outside Zele’s Café Monday afternoon, the Mayor told the story of talking to a survey firm named CRG—CRG Research, as it turns out—taking a survey for the Aspen Planning Commission. Her Honor informed the market researcher of two important facts.
“I’m the Mayor of Aspen,” she said, “and there is no such commission.”
The market research firm was calling Aspen citizens to answer questions about the future of our fair city. Nothing wrong with that. But the firm was also purporting to be commissioned by a city commission. Not true.
Once they ran into the Mayor over the phone, the survey was stopped cold. But the firm also refused to reveal the client trying to glean information by in effect posing as an Aspen city agency.
Don’t be surprised if you already heard about this story—over the phone.

Hey Michael,
From reading the articles written about this in the Aspen Daily News, it is starting to be spun into something that should be re-filed under your "Conspiracy" column.
