DrBill's Aspen FilmFest 2006 Blog Day 6
September 30th, 2006 at 12:42pm DrBill 180
Today, another four films are slated and award of the Independent by Nature award presentation to Harrison Ford.
10:30 AM is BE WITH ME, "an ode to love, destiny, and ultimately hope."
BE WITH ME, a film, almost a docudrama from Singapore and director Eric Khoo. Khoo uses an almost silent style in this story without a plot. Fantasy, Illusion and dream help paint the picture of a few relationships and lives in Singapore. This film is soft yet hard, sweet yet cold and bitter.
Kahoo shares that his intention was a theme embodying love, hope and destiny. This spoke to me of unrequited love and frustration. The main character of this film, Theresa Chan, blind and deaf, embodies determinism at its' finest in conquering great difficulties. Silence is used as a metaphor that reflects her world and the frustration played out by the two beautiful youg lesbian girls who communicate only through text messages signaled by very irritating tones or in intimate embrace. Another character, a man who has not found his place or purpose in life having been abused by his father lives in fantasy with a beautiful woman that he writes to and dreams about but is just another part of his life that he is unable to manifest.
A unique journey in the exploration of the heart.
2:00 PM A LAND OUT OF TIME, a documentary about what is described as, "The biggest land-grab in American history."
A LAND OUT OF TIME is a call to action! This was another heart pounding, get mad as hell stimulus and education about what the current administration is allowing, promoting and doing to our most precious lands by fast-tracking gas and oil drilling, even literally, right in our back yard, the Roan Plateau and throughout the Rocky Mountains. This is not sensationalism or fallacy, this is fact and it is up to each of us to make choices in our elected officials who represent future generation's and our best interests. Conservation is the most responsible personal or political choice, an act that we can demonstrate each day! Visit alandoutoftime.com for direction and please see this film. DVDs are available for just the cost of shipping from the web site. Again, I am humbled, inspired and called to action! A conscious, responsible message delivered through the powerful media of film! Thank you Aspen FilmFest for being the messenger's stage! "A Land Out of Time screens again Sunday in Glenwood Springs at the Springs Theatre at 5:30 PM. Don't miss this second chance!
Next up will be:
5:30 PM HARRISON FORD
8:00 PM DAYS OF GLORY, "A gripping war tale with a powerful message recounts the largely forgotten story of the Algerian, Moroccan and Tunisian recruits who bravely fought for France against the Nazis in WWII.
10:30 PM SHUT UP AND SING, a documentary about the Dixie Chicks in the aftermath of their outspoken comments of George Bush.
Another big day at the Wheeler is before me, so check out DrBill's take on Day six tomorrow!
