<description>I agree that there is a big difference between emryonic stem cell research and the rest of the stem cell research. none of this research is banned by the federal goverment or, more precisely, by President Bush.

The fact that the federal government will not fund embryonic stem cell research is not a ban on that research and any scientist or pharmaceutical company can do as much of it as they please in this country or abroad.

The true debate should be over whether the adult stem cell samples are yielding better results and showing more promise that the embryonic stem cell ones. Pharma companies are big business and they will put there enormous money into whatever research shows the most promise.

critics of the president tend to bunch all stem cell research into one bundle and suggest the current chief executive is opposed to it. rubbish. the current president is opposed only to the federal government using taxpayers money to fund stem cell research on embryonically obtained cell matter. the fact that the motivation for this limited prohibition is based on a religiously-oriented belief is open to criticism, but let's keep the debate honest and not suggest that the president is opposed to scientific research on principle.
