Colorado Resorts Wearing The Green

November 20th, 2006 at 07:28am Post Staff 43

DENVER, COLORADO (Post Time News)--Aspen Skiing Company (SkiCo) is not the only resort company in Colorado trying to keep it green. Of the 26 resorts in the state, "almost all of them are launching some kind of 'green' initiative," according to a story by reporter Julie Dunn.

SkiCo, of course was the first to make the shift to wind power, a move made in March 2006. But others have followed, including Wolf Creek Ski Area, Copper Mountain, Crested Butte Mountain Resort, and Vail Resorts Inc., owner of Breckenridge, Keystone, Beaver Creek, and Vail.

SkiCo has also been in the news of late for its friend-of-the-court brief written in a case on climate change now in front of the United States Supreme Court. A Colorado College study made public in spring 2006 predicts that snowpack in 2085 could decline by 43 percent in Pitkin County, 54 percent in Grand County, 57 percent in Eagle County, and 82 percent in San Miguel County if things go from bad to worse when it comes to global warming.
