Grab and Go in D.C.

While a work day in Aspen/Snowmass may start with rolling out of the bed and throwing a ski co jacket over your pj's and hitting the slopes...in D.C. it's all business. My alarm goes off at 4:45 a.m. and by 5 a.m. I am in the gym, where cell phones ring, deals are discussed and if your lucky enough a morning workout is completed. When the clock hits 7 a.m. it's throw the office shoes in the bag, grab the laptop, lace up the sneakers and hit the pavement. On the way to work stop by the local Corner Bakery for a cup of java, throw on the security badge and cross on over to the concrete marble floored building. By 8 a.m. office shoes are back on and lap tops are on the table and the morning sessions begin. Sessions are full of policy and procedures that lead to discussions, debates and comments and result in decisions. While an hour is scheduled for lunch were lucky if we get 20 minutes. It's a grab and go inside the building cafe and back to afternoon sessions. During the 15 minute afternoon break emails are checked, breaking news is watched on the office television and a cup of coffee is retrieved from the office "kitchen". The late afternoon sessions include moving to underground conference rooms where more policy and procedures are dealt with. While the schedule states the work day ends at 5 p.m. by the time I switch back to the running shoes to hit the pavement it is closer to 7 p.m. After keeping pace on the crowded walk to the hotel. It is time to check messages, return phone calls and review emails. By 7:45 p.m. if your lucky enough you are able to grab a seat at Luigi's or Singapore Bistro other wise it's a grab from the deli and back to the hotel to brew some decaf and review documents, study manuals and prepare for the early morning sessions. By the time 11:00 p.m. comes you realize you haven't read today's paper so you scan the Washington Post while listening to the evening news. The next thing you know it's 11:45 p.m. and you set your alarm and force yourself to go to sleep...God, I love this town!
