IT’S A DEAL…THE ISIS IS SAVED!
February 23, 2007 (ASPEN, COLORADO) – After many months of complex negotiations involving a unique public-private partnership between the City of Aspen, Aspen Film, and the Isis Retail Group, Aspen Film proudly announces the acquisition of the Isis Theater. With the completion of this unprecedented transaction, which will benefit the entire community, Aspen Film opens a new chapter in its ongoing commitment to build and enhance the film experience for moviegoers in Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley.
As a result of this acquisition, a newly configured four-screen multiplex will be deed-restricted for use as a first-run movie theater and will continue to be operated by Metropolitan/Rocky Mountain Cinemas. Renovation of the current theater is scheduled for this spring. Aspen Film plans to present a portion of its September festival, Aspen Filmfest, at the Isis.
A major contributor to Aspen’s vibrant arts and cultural scene for nearly 30 years, Aspen Film assumes new responsibilities in its non-profit mission to entertain, educate, enrich, and enlighten movie audiences of all ages.
”This is a tremendously exciting step for our organization. The Isis is a beloved venue with a long history and, as stewards of the movie going experience, we want to ensure its doors never close,” said executive director Laura Thielen.
“Aspen Film is making a long-term commitment of both financial and human resources to ensure the preservation of this invaluable community asset. We’re honored to play a significant role in saving the Isis.
”The town is now assured that a first-run movie theater will continue operating in Aspen.”
One of Colorado's most active film arts organizations, Aspen Film presents festivals, film series and youth education programs year-round. Aspen Film is made possible in part by the generosity of The Danny Kaye and Sylvia Fine Kaye Foundation, The City of Aspen, Town of Snowmass Village, The Little Nell, and Reel People: The Friends of Aspen Film.
