There’s a spring in my step today and it’s not because it’s spring. My extra bounce is practically a boing because today is Conspiracy Thursday on my “Con Games” radio show.
Why Conspiracy Thursday? It just sounds right, doesn’t it, and there’s more than enough dastardly bastards at work to fill two hours with this stuff at least once a week. Plus I promised my listeners—the ones who accost me on these mean streets—that I would revisit and re-open the matter of the government’s role in the attacks of 9/11 on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center towers. I promised I would actually read “Loose Change,” the video Koran of the conspiracy theory movement.
And so I do, watching conspiratorially on my laptop because my standard DVD player conspiratorially refused to work.
I know I’m making fun, and I know this drives the theorists absolutely batty. But I can’t help it. As a journalist, even an apostate one, it became harder and harder to buy into the big bad government theory based on the evidence presented in “Loose Change.”
In a nutshell, the Change Agents believe that Tomahawk missiles—and not an airliner—hit the Pentagon on 9/11. They believe that all the passengers from United 93 were taken off the plane in Cleveland and that all those cell phone calls were fabricated and that United 93 was somehow shot down over Pennsylvania, or some such. And they believe that the destruction of the Twin Towers was a “controlled demolition” from explosives planted up and down the building beforehand, just like the planned implosions hear around America every day.
So let’s start with the best part. The Loose Changers make a strong case to suggest no jet could have left the hole in the Pentagon left behind in the crash. Put aside the eyewitness on my program who actually saw the plane and the crash and took photos afterward, and the CSI-type evidence—small hole, little debris, no similarity to similar jet crashes—is actually convincing, as far as it goes.
But here’s the problem: no one saw the missile and many eyewitness saw the jet. And where the heck are all those jet passengers?
Things go downhill from there. The music is ominous and the narrator says things like “the government would have us think”—without ever defining “the government” in this context. Much is made of a fake terrorism/drone plane plan put forth by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Kennedy Administration, but JFK rejected the plan, the Chair was shit-canned, and the idea never re-emerged until forty years later. This may well be proof of how nefarious government can get, but there is no evidence in “Loose Change”—zero, zippo—as to how that plan somehow transmogrified into 9/11.
As for the “controlled demolition” of the World Trade Center by “the government,” think this through for a moment. One the one hand, the Loose Changers claim missiles hit the Pentagon and maybe even that godforsaken field in Pennsylvania. But they can’t dispute jets hit the Twin Towers because of the overwhelming video evidence that they did. Instead, they claim that explosives were set throughout the towers by dark forces to bring the buildings down.
The evidence for such a happening is that there were multiple explosions—a janitor’s evidence in the basement is meant to be telling—and that teeny-tiny grainy flashes of light are just barely visible in video that is obscure at best. Now I have no doubt there were multiple explosions in a building that big for various reasons, but to assume that such noises “prove” a “controlled demolition”—an immensely complex undertaking–is outright ludicrous.
To believe the conspiracy theorists, you also have to believe that all the missing passengers from all these flights have been spirited away, never to be heard from again. You have to believe that Osama bin-Ladin and al-Qaeda had no involvement in 9/11 whatsoever. And you have to believe there were people at the highest levels of the United States government—Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz, whomever—willing to stage the massacre of their own people. And you also have to believe that this was somehow done for somebody to get their hands on like a billion dollars of gold sequestered in the World Trade Center and now missing—and the excuse to invade Iraq.
As entertainment, “Loose Change” is actually entertaining, but as anything more you might want to have your head examined. I would put a challenge to those enamored of the badness of our leaders: rather than worry about turbines and titanium, produce one living witness taken off the jet that supposedly hit the Pentagon full-on.
Is that so much to ask the 36 percent of the American people who think “the government” is behind the attacks of 9/11.

I do think that our government has been invovlved in conspiracies, even at very high levels. Watergate was a conspiracy, as was Iran -Contra. With or without the reasons for 9-11, the reason we are in Iraq, is a conspiracy based on forged documents. These events were thought out and planned. A conspiracy is basically a “dark” plan amongst individuals to produce a certain result and with some kind of collateral damage –not always human casualties.
I think the Bush Administration knew of Al Qeada’s long record established with the Khobar towers, embassies, uss Cole bombings, etc. The Administration knew they had talked down the markets, knew there were public questions of legitimacy based on the elections results. They had a plan to go into Iraq. Many officials were involved with the deals aiding Hussein, with their names in Iraqi archives. As a sidebar to this the clumsy assasination attempt on Bush1. You have the drilling and finances derived from there, which come back as campaign contributions. I admit this is a stream of conscience list.
With the reasons and motivations above, here is the scenario that makes sense;

I know a plane hit the Pentagon and the other sites as well and think that the active involvement of the government is absolutely ridiculous. The conspiracy is in the deliberately ignored intelligence, enablement, letting it happen. NOT MAKING IT HAPPEN! Big difference. Subtleties work better ,and there is no paper trail of active involvement. No evidence will ever exist, when the governement acts as a spectator. During WWII there was silence about some raids, so the Axis powers wouldn’t know we had the codes cracked. We let people die.
To accept the government take on the situation, one has to accept that all in power positions, have intellects competitive with the reptilian order, I don’t buy it.

-NIST haven't been able to determine why the building came down. Their report is now going on 7 years in the making.

Instead the first and second editions served as the catalyst for people to begin asking the tough questions that were either glossed over by NIST/FEMA or entirely ignored. Loose Change certainly has its flaws, but then again so do the government sponsored reports about the most prolific attack in modern times.
The reason more [not less] people are beginning to question the “official story” is simple. First you must consider all that has been done since 9/11 under the auspice of 9/11. We deserve to know the truth about what is begin done in OUR NAMES all around the globe. Second, the American people are not yet as dumb as BushCo. likes to think.

Michael, I want to believe in conspiracy theories because I’ve seen how things work enough to know that they could very easily exist. But not 9/11. Not even possible. Too many chains of command, interconnected for that to happen., impossible, actually. Someone would have blown the whistle, on something as grand as that.
My brother in law of m half sister was an Army Intelligence Officer, based at the Pentagon when 9/11 happened.
We have had some unique conversations often, as he never saw combat, whereas I was an Army Ranger Intel Sargeant, There were years between, but, he would have been one of fhe guys who took my field/battle call on satellite phone. Thats not the point here. My point here is this… (and I think I told you this once recently…. )
My brother in law was stationed at the Pentagon on 9/11. He was 7-800 yards away from where the plane hit. He had gotten his coffee and bagel there, and walked out and saw it happen as he got in his govenment vehicle.
He told he left the vehicle at the gas pump and raced on foot to help. Whats kinda odd is that by the time he got there, there were people already in place, already securing the scene. He did help, but he repeatedly gripes about how he could have and wanted to do more.
I believe my brother in law, and I believe your friend who was also there. I can understand how a plane such as that could disentigrage on impact, especially with the high heat burn of jet fuel.
What I don’t understand is how the engines, atleast publicly, were never found., The engines are made of high level grade titanium… heat resistant. My question is where did the engine covers go>?
And further, I find it a bit ironic that we grounded all aircraft, commercial flights, etc. within hours of the World Trade Center attacks.
Yet we allowed a very limited, yet open amount of flights OUT of this country for those Saudi Nationals within our country. What? Would someone out there please explain that executive order to me?
Its blatantly obvious that we all know now that the leaders of our country knew that the leaders of Al-Queda were Saudi Nationals. Something here stinks.
Whats more is thast if you go online and google the Bush family and their ties to the Saudi Emperical family….. I guess you have to connect some dots.

I just saw “part one” “of “loose change” While they bring up some interesting questions I believe there are fairly good answers I can come up with, honestly considered. Naturally, the government will come up with sophisticated answers designed to present a picture not necessarily the truth. Even so, I am quite sure the planes identified as hitting the Al Qaida targets with the exception of the PA impact, actually impacted those sites.
How does a plane disappear in the PEntagon? The plane crashes through multiple walls which act as baffling similar to a muffler on a car like the old style Cherry Bombs, straight through mufflers that you can see through. It stops and the fuel, aluminum, bodies, dust are mixed with air in a superheated suspension, similar to how a fuel injector unit acts going into a combustion chamber. The movement kinetic energy compresses this unfortunate mixture and undergoes extremely rapid oxidation, not a true explosion which involves molecular disassociation. A large amount of heat would be released in a relatively small space. The flame fronts would go into the areas separated by the walls.
Why not much debris outside? Many of us have been in a swimming pool and pulled our hands through the water and seen the air pockets and bubbles behind our hands. This is caused by a trailing partial vacuum. When the plane went through the outer wall, there was certainly a very strong trailing vacuum pulling almost all material into the interior even after the impacts of some of the wing and tail sections. The flame fron would also have gone back out through the outer wall laden with buckey ball composed soot. This is the blackened area I saw, I used to drive on Interstate 395 frequently.
I do not have an explanation as to why the axial intake and exhaust rotors composed of Ti from the 757, were not found or why one cannot find evidence of their impact. Nevertheless, the “substitute” plane Loose change suggests could have done this, would have the same issues, except the claim by LooseChange about the one they claim to have identified. I admit one cannot help but have questions on this. The rest of the plane and contents of whatever hit the building, I feel quite comfortable with the explanation I have. I am also certain that whatever did hit was a turbojet powered device not a rocket powered missile, but that still leaves open at least on paper the possibility of a cruise missile. However, the size of the impact hole precludes the cruise missile theory.
The unbroken windows; the Pentagon was undergoing a strengthening renovation, in that area. It was designed to take an indirect nuclear airburst. The windows were being replaced by special heat and shock resistant clear materials, the composition of which I am not certain, but more than a foot thick. Some possibilities are solid amorphous quartz cubes wrapped or encased in shock resistant lexan. Whatever the composition, the windows were being replaced.

The fact that we are in Iraq, and even looking possibly at Iran, demonstrates to me that we are not really looking to get after Al Qeada, the self identified, admitted and proud perpetrators of this shocking slaughter. If anyone shares this opinion with me, one could hardly have warm cuddly patriotic opinions of the present regime residing in the White House. IF the government was really after the perpetrators the commmitment to Afghanistan would have included all the effort in Iraq plus what is there now, we could have Marshall planned that country and embarrassed the goons running the rest of the Middle East including Hussein, perhaps they would have begun their own much needed reforms. Sadly, we have what we have.

[1] Why won’t you talk about the BBC’s reporting of WTC7′s collapse an hour before it actually happened? For that matter, why won’t you talk about CNN reporting that “WTC7 has collapsed or is about to collapse about a half hour before it did so?
[2] If you agree with the “official story,” where the collapses of the twin towers were caused by the building’s own weight, then explain where the extra weight came from. The bases of both towers were built to support 5 times more weight than they actually did. All the official reports [NIST, FEMA, 9/11 Com] acknowledge the damage at the impact zones were fairly localized [as compared to the whole building]. Those reports also acknowledge the bases were undamaged. So, where did all that extra weight come from in order to initiate a global collapse sequence?

My sister lives in Manhattan, and I worked within walking distance of the Pentagon. Unlike JFK, MLK where there are some pretty good questions about the lone crazed gunman, or Watergate, or Iran -Contra where there was damning evidence and testimony to the cases, there is not even a scintilla of evidence, of what is being suggested in Loose Change.

It’s too overwhelming to face the fact that our government may have been complicit in 9/11. What are we supposed to do with that information? They wont talk about the 3 steel buildings that came down perfectly in demolition form, that the Lease holder on those buildings, Larry Silverstien told PBS that the firefighters decided to “pull” building 7, and it did. The 40+ story steel building came down in perfect form without no planes ever hitting it. They wont talk about the fact that there is no 757 plane parts around or in the Pentagon, they wont take about the fact that 9 of the original hijackers are still alive, they wont talk about all the gag orders put on some of the FBI and CIA employees, preventing them from speaking, they wont talk about the PNAC documents that say in order to invade and occupy the Middle East we need a Pearl Harbor type event, otherwise the people wont get behind us. And just because President Bush’s brother Marvin Bush was head of security for the WTC complex is just another coincidence.
I remember in school as a young child we learned that the Indians were savages and they attacked and killed innocent whites from Europe. We even learned that they scalped the men, women and children for their ceremonial dances and hung them around their necks. As I got older I learned just the opposite, that our ancestors were the savages, that they gave bounties to other whites for Indian scalps.
Those taking the scalps of Indians quickly learned that they could cut them up and claim they killed more. The invaders then changed the bounties for Indian noses, and ears, gosh they were imaginative.
If you further study what happened to the Indians at the hands of this government, it would sicken you. They butchered the men, raped the women and in slaved some of the children.
