It's all coming back at me now--all those nasty quips about Mayor Mick Ireland and his foot-in-mouth Aspen City Council being Communists.
Now people are telling me without prompting that Mick and his minions really are Communists--no joke.
Still it's funny. I opened the Sunday newspaper this morning to see Aspen being "nickle and dimed" to death because everything costs a limb, even little things. And then there was the story under the headline "Council Visualizes Ajax Base" about how what we really need is affordable housing where the Lodge at Aspen hoped to put (gasp!) a hotel. Mick made the statement that what we really need is affordable housing and a lift that comes right into town.

This week my children were sick, both with nasty colds. When a small child’s head and lungs are congested with mucus, it’s hard from them to be happy. They aren’t yet capable of blowing their nose in a tissue, or hocking a loogy. Instead they must rely on gravity to draw the mucus from their heads, a method that ensures prolonged misery.

I know we all have some reason for getting up in the morning. Usually its our jobs, our kids, our lives. But what gets you to the gym, is what I am interested in knowing. Some people say it’s to lose weight, or keep weight off. Others may say it’s for their health, a wonderful excuse. Others I know, say it’s their “respite”, a break from their hectic schedules. Hey, some even go to the gym to check out members of the opposite sex! Whatever floats your boat, as the saying goes. But what about those days when the last thing you want to do is put on workout wear and hit the Treadmill? We all have them, and let me be the first to tell you: it’s completely normal. We all need a break sometimes.

The City of Aspen and the D.A. will have spent tens of thousands of dollars before they're done. My real fear is that now that the process in motion there's no way to stop and that Toni will be brought to trial.
I have a simple response to that possibility: shame on you--shame on every public official who has anything to do with this investigation. If ever there was a victimless crime, this is it, proving beyond a shadow that justice in the Roaring Fork Valley is deaf, dumb, and blind. Toni can be annoying or even incomprehensible at times, but she doesn't have a criminal bone in her body.
Drop the investigation because it's the right thing to do. Leave Toni alone. We all have better things to do.

As I reported on Wednesday, Sept. 26, New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer issued an executive order that would allow illegal aliens residing in the state to receive driver's licenses. Since that report, all hell has broken loose....

What’s driving our water crisis? While we suffer water problems today, Harris Sherman, director of Colorado Department of Natural Resources, said, "We expect another 2.8 million people in the state by 2030...this is why we're seeing this fierce competition for water." Let's uncover a greater calamity we face: the Fogel/Martin March 2006 "US Population Projections for 2050" shows Colorado growing from 4.3 million in 2006 to 9.77 million by 2050. If you think water proves as a crisis today, you ain't seen nothing yet. Why? Because while we grow by six million, California grows by 42 million or, from 37.5 million to 79.1 million! Arizona, to add another five million, and California--depend on the Colorado River as their lifeblood. Something's gotta' give folks!

Last month, in Newark, New Jersey, two illegal aliens executed three college-bound teenagers. Both men, members of MS-13, sported rap sheets as long as a football field. Illegal alien Carranza, featuring 31 indictments, raped a five year old girl. Illegal Godinez distributed drugs. Both enjoyed freedom via bail bonds while escaping deportation through Newark’s Mayor Cory Booker’s “Sanctuary Policy.” Booker allows illegal aliens to remain immune from police discovering their immigration status. Instead of deportation, they may roam free on American soil.

Just what is does Karma mean? Without consulting Webster’s dicitonary or Wikopedia, I think it’s fair to say it means, “what goes around, comes around.” To think of the Karma in a more biblical sense, try “do unto others what you’d expect to be done to you.” While I’ve seen no scientific proof to support that Karma exists, all one really has to do is take a look around to believe in the mantra. Good things happen to good people? Well not always, but being the best person you can be and doing the right thing have got to account for something. Doing not so nice things? Deliberately harming others? Well, if payback is real, I guess it’s up to personal belief, or to use another laden analogy, “the proof is in the pudding.”

This morning, Thomas from Snowmass called President Ahmadinejad a sociopath. I could not agree more. What are some of the defining characteristics of a sociopath?
Tendency to violate the rights of others
Lack of remorse for hurting others
Superficial charm
Recklessness, impulsivity

Remember Ronald Reagan? He convened the Grace Commission that investigated waste and abuse in the federal government. To our nation’s astonishment, the commission reported that “...all individual income tax revenues are gone before any money is spent on services taxpayers expect from their government.”
Year after year and not a dime spent on what we expect! Not only are Americans being robbed on a monumental scale, our freedom is an illusion. Evidence of tyranny is strewn everywhere, for laws are written, in contrast to votes that disappear into black boxes.
