We should have Tomatoes, Gala Apples, Peaches, Summer Squash, Cucumbers, Beets, Carrots, Cilantro or Basil, Jalapenos, New Potatoes, Garlic, Ground Cherries ( aka Goose Berries ) and Edamame Sounds good to me! I am really enjoying this fresh cuisine.
I invited my neighbor Miss Jodie over this morning for a Squash Blossom Breakfast. I've had a hankering for weeks now since Mona Esposito fed me one on my delivery route in Aspen, and boy was I hungry for them. I stuffed them with a mix of Haystack Smoked Chevre and James Ranch Belford, put in a sliver of roasted Jalapeno, rolled them in egg whites and then I dipped them in flour. Next a few minutes of saute on each side in a hot pan with a little ghee and grapeseed oil. I had made a marinara the night before out of garlic, lemon zest, crushed red pepper, olive oil, sage and fresh Heirlooms. That served grandly as a dipping sauce. A squeeze of lemon, a dusting of sea salt and Voilla! Crunch, Crunch. Two very happy, fat ladies, Miss Jodie and I!
Extras this Week
Peaches- 2# for $6
Heirlooms- 1# for $5
Basil- 1/2 # for $9
Gala Apples- 2# for $5
Jumbo Squash Blossoms- 4 for $4
Inchelleum Garlic 1# for $10
Our Zephyros Farm Dinner is sold out! I will try to get some pictures on the web for you that might want to try coming next year. Our next party is the Farmers Harvest Hoedown during the Mountain Harvest Festival. It is on Saturday, September 29th, from 4-7pm. Bring Blankets, Flashlights and Dancin'Shoes cause we got Bobby Mason, Hayden Greg and David Starr to give us some Boogie Woogie. Myself and a few other brave souls shall provide you with a local foods Bar-B-Que. New Belgium will bring on the beer and Big B's will have fresh pressed Cider. Cover Price is $10. Spend the night if you can because their is a great line-up of bands playing downtown Paonia later that night. Check out the Bross Hotel @ 970 527-6776 for a nice Historic B & B.
Let me know if you want a watermelon as an extra this week. I have Jade Stars and Yellow Dolls for a buck a pound. Size wise they are about 6 # each.
Also a little reminder for you, we will have our Fabulous Wild Wood Farm and Indian Ridge Turkeys again this year for Thanksgiving. They are on the hoof and sizing up nicely. We will have a trimmings box again as well to go with those turkeys, or not!
RECYCLE, REDUCE, REUSE I want all my boxes, bags (paper & plastic) and egg cartons back, por favor. Packaging is really expensive. It would be great if you all could request Paper Bags from the Grocery Stores when you are shopping and then I wouldn't have to buy any at all and we could reuse them till they fall apart! at which point I could just compost them, ok?
That's it! Thanks so much. We are still peaking on our Food so tell your friends to try us..............Dava
