The Armenian Holocaust resolution or whatever ridiculous title passed by the Congress demonstrates the extreme level of simple minded idiocy our federal govt has when it comes to foreign policy. I am not saying it didn’t happen — it did. It is acknowleged in history text books with out this expression of stupidity.
So what next now that our flank is exposed to this type of retroactive official comment? Which N.A.T.O. Country will attack our very sordid history regarding slavery and reservations in American “Basutolands” for Amerindians. Of course these guys are supposed to be our friends. One can well imagine what traditionally opposed heads of state will have to say about this.
Anybody up for a can of worms to go with crow pie, even Jim Crow pie?

Hey Ed,
I really didn’t know what to make of this until Turkey recalled their ambassador to Washington, Nabi Sensoy. Then it became quite clear that this is Congressional Democrats–perhaps the State Department, too–trying to make work difficult for the Bush Administration.
What’s telling is that my news crawlers are all over this, but the NBC evening news blew by it like it is incidental.
Cheers,
Anybody recall our own genosidal activities: Little Big Horn, The Trail of Tears, et al.
Congress is made up of a bunch of hypocrites out for a publicity stunt.
If the Dems really want to make truoble for Bush, impeach him, then try him for crimes against the People. Then we can hand him over to the U.N. for charges of War Crimes.
That would make it very difficult to function.
aspenoakes,
regarding Bush , I have suggested that with the addition of a treason charge and handing him over to the Hague and World Court
Mitch,
it is just plain dumb “f” @&% ery. I might understand the move if it helped the Democrats, I would still disagree, but damn, whoever it was, can stumble upon their IQ between 13.6 and 13.9. If they were eaten by humans, would this be genetic cannibalism? Qualifying for hooves could be in their future.
Ed,
You are more right then you know. I have never seen a lack of foreign policy in my life. This week alone, lets add up what has happened.
Congress pisses off Turkey with a meaningless resolution, in turn giving them an excuse to cut off support for us and attack the Kurds who just happen to be sitting on a bunch of oil fields. Thanks to that “harmless” resolution, oil is now at record levels just in time for winter. As we know, and Congress should know, there is a direct correlation between stability in the region and oil prices. So now, we can will be paying more for heating oil thanks to the Dems retarded move to pass a meaningless resolution just to piss of f Bush.
Does anyone wonder why the Dem congress has the lowest approval ratings in History?? Do they or anyone else think this is going to get them points? How stupid can they be…oh wait, don’t answer that…lets look at the other stupid things they did this week.
Lets see…they are going to give the Dali Lama an award..hell, we are pissing off everyone else..why not China too. Anyone wonder why the dollar is so weak right now…how about dept to China…so lets just give them a excuse to make our currency weaker on the world market…great thinking.
And last, lets not forget the little meeting between the goofball in Iran and Putin from Russia. Hello…anyone seeing any red flags here. Putin has been changing the whole setup of the Russian government returning things to “the old days” and how he is glad handing Ackkk madinijad and saying their nuke program is peaceful. And Congress isn’t saying anything about it…to busy practicing those yoga positions no doubt.
I am no friggin state department world watchdog and I can see things are going to shit in a hand basket very quickly….besides sitting around telling each other how great they are and passing worthless resolutions, is Congress doing anything worthwhile? I hope people remember all this when re-election time comes around. Time to clean house I say…get rid of everyone and start over…now I know why some countries have revolutions…its to get rid of the stupid people..who for some reason tend to go into politics…go figure.
Ed & Alpha,
I’m having a tough time trying to figure out how this Congress is going to play in the ’08 elections…
Maybe I don’t give the voting public enough credit, but I don’t see how a Republican can overcome the knee-jerk away from the Bush Administration. To me it’s a question of which Democrat it will be: Clinton, or Gore…
That said, Congress is another matter. The Republican’s pissed in their own canteen and lost a majority in ’06, but since then, Congress has become a freak-show of epic proportion. Congress’ approval ratings make Bush’s look good. Some I know predict an overwhelming Democrat majority in the House and Senate in ’08. To me, that just doesn’t compute.
Cheers,
Mitch,
I am not looking forward to next year elections. Regarding the Presidential election I think the current Republican candidates have distanced them selfs enough from the Bush Administration to avoid any “its the same thing over again” syndrome. Also, given the candidates on both sides, Mitt and Rudy are both very smart guys so they have that going for them and as for Hillery, she has a huge “people just hate her” hurdle to get over to assure a win, and from what I have read, this is also weighing on the minds of many Dems who want to gain the Whitehouse and not sure if she is the best candidate to assure that.
As for Congress….Where do we go?? The Republicans that are there have turned into a bunch of spineless do nothings and the Democrats are out of control and sucking the tit of every wacko special interest group out there with no regard for our country or its citizens.
I am sick of their incompetence….where have all the good men gone??
Speaking of conspiracies…how about ELECTION CANCELED!
On the other hand, the neo-cons seem to be anointing Giuliani. He’s the one most willing to carry out their agenda of exploiting America’s fears in order to plunder the Middle East.
Of course, the sure way to tell who’s going to be our next president is to figure out where Karl Rove is right now.
G,
[...the sure way to tell who's going to be our next president is to figure out where Karl Rove is right now.]
It’s all rumor and speculation at this point, but Googling ‘”Karl Rove”+”Fred Thompson”‘ produces some interesting ratiocination.
Cheers,
“How about a round of applause, people?”
Golf clap…pat,pat,pat,pat,pat….. ;P
Any one who can use “golf” and “clap” in a two-word phrase passed up civility for “don’t be cheap on the pour”….
Meanwhile, everyone’s thinking, “Keep that man away from my thesaurus!”
Cheers,
Take it easy Governor…
Still learning, and I guess the rest of you don’t refer to your beer as “grog” either??!!
Didn’t realize this was a queens English blog. Sorry mate.
:p
In a WaPo op-ed, Charles Krauthammer asks a very salient question:
“Was House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s determination to bring this to a vote, knowing that it risked provoking Turkey into withdrawing crucial assistance to American soldiers in Iraq, a conscious … or unconscious … attempt to sabotage the U.S. war effort?”
Unfortunately, Krauthammer doesn’t speculate what the answer may be, but he does offer, with apologies to Occam, what he calls “Krauthammer’s Razor”:
“In explaining any puzzling Washington phenomenon, always choose stupidity over conspiracy, incompetence over cunning. Anything else gives them too much credit.”
I couldn’t agree more.

No worries… it’s a selfish amusement of mine to test the limits of G’s vocabulary… Every wonder whether there’s another word for “Thesaurus?”
Cheers,
[Ever wonder whether there's another word for "Thesaurus?"]
Wow… how about onomasticon? Although not technically a thesaurus, nevertheless interesting:
“A vocabulary or dictionary of proper names or place names.
“A book such as the Oxford Names Companion is an onomasticon, and the word has throughout history turned up most often in the titles of such works. It still does occasionally: There’s the Buffyverse Onomasticon, an online resource that gives the origins of the names of all the characters in the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The Onomasticon to Cicero’s Letters and the Onomasticon of the Hittite Pantheon (in three volumes) are two modern scholarly examples. The word is from Greek onomázein, to name, of which onuma, a name, is a close relative.
“They’re the source of other words to do with names. An onomastician studies the origin and form of proper names of every kind and the field of study is called onomastics. The study of place names is an important onomastic endeavour, and has its own name, toponymy (from Greek topos, a place + onuma), with a toponymist being a person who studies it. We must also distinguish between an onomastician and an onomasiologist — the latter studies the principles of naming, such as the way it varies between places and groups of people and how new names are formed…”
but I digress….

Yeah, go ahead and make fun of us plain talkers. At least when people read what I write they don’t need to waste time consulting the dictionary. Which is more than I can say for SOME AP bloggers!
