The Pause That Refreshes?

Something very different this time. Warning - Many of you who might read the following may very well think that it's a disgusting or obnoxious topic. If that's the case - STOP READING! More of you may receive some entertainment value and think that it's amusing. That's fine. Some may be of the right frame of mind and the following may just hit a right chord wth you in which case you may find it interesting and informative. YOU are actually my target audience.
I was reminded of this subject recently when I went to a company Christmas party held at the new "Lodge on the Roaring Fork" in Carbondale. Most of the details of the party are irrelevant to this treatise, but there was a fantastic steak on the menu. Near by the serving dish for the meat was a bowl of sauteed onions to put on the steak if one wished. The onions went VERY well with the steak, even though there was no tartness or bite to them - they were extremely sweet. This does factor in shortly.
That party was held on a Saturday night. Fast-forward to Tuesday morning. While my coffee pot was brewing and I was starting to get dressed, I had a rather large urge to take a crap NOW! It all came out within a few seconds and had a very weird odor that was somewhat sickingly sweet as well as odious (even to me!). It was unmistakeable - onions from Saturday night coming out some 60 hours later! I was aghast!
Some 15 years ago, I read a very small book on the importance of colon cleansing. The author claimed that with a healthy colon, the transit time for food through the digestive system from mouth to anus should be on the order of 14 to 16 hours. He claimed that with the Standard American Diet (SAD), most people were experiencing transit times of 24 to 48 hours and becoming sicker because of that. The bottom line was that he was promoting a product sold in GNC stores. I forget the name of the product, but I believe that I would recognize it if I saw it again. It was a bottle of capsules and cost something like $35 to $40 (15 years ago) for a two weeks supply! That was supposed to be sufficient to clean you out and it was highly recommended that one should not do that program for more than the two weeks anyway. You could do the cleansing as necessary, but no more than 3 times in a whole calendar year.
Back then, I did try it. At the time, I had a bit of excess weight, but no symptoms of any disease or any medical problem. Yet I was lethargic at times for no explainable reason. I did the program, went through a few weird side effects, but made it through no problem. Afterwords, my chronic energy level was approximately DOUBLE what it had been before and I felt as if I had gotten a bit younger! I was ecstatic! From then on, I took many of the suggestions for foods to avoid and foods to take regularly, but I never did another cleansing nor did I even think about it at all. I thought I was doing great all this time.
Then I noticed those onions obviously taking 60 hours to get through my system and I was absolutely floored. I instantly remembered everything mentioned in the paragraph above and just knew that I needed some cleansing ASAP. I didn't remember GNC at all, initially, and looked for products locally in places like City Market and Walmart. I was very confused. Nowadays, there are literally DOZENS of colon cleansing products out there in all kinds of price ranges, with all kinds of different ingredients and all kinds of different dosages. I went away from the stores shaking my head, not knowing how to proceed - too much (and too varied) information.
A light bulb went off in my head. I have been a member of the "Life Extension Foundation" for years. They do a bang-up job on research into prolonging human life, mainly through nutrition and they have products literally years before they are available in normal stores. Surely, they would have colon cleansing too. They did - a few different products, but similar and looking at the ingredients, I received an idea of what to look for. I really wanted to get something the very next day, so I put off trying to order from them and ended up confused again. Absolutely nothing on sale in local stores was even remotely similar to what Life Extension recommended. (In case anyone is interested, the Life Extension Foundation is located in Florida and their website is: http://www.lef.org )
In the middle of all this rigamarole, I became aware of "Dr. Miller's Holy Tea" from a good friend of mine. It was recommended for it's efficacy in detoxifying the body (including the colon) and it was represented as an awesome business opportunity as well. I joined. The "tea" comes in seemingly regular tea bags which contain a mixture of various herbs to accomplish its required job. It's meant to be made by boiling up a quart of water to a full boil, add the tea bags, cover, remove from heat and let steep for 4 to 8 hours. Then you add water, juice or some other favorite beverage so as to bring the whole mixture up to a gallon. It is then recommended to take an 8 ounce glass with lunch and dinner and a 4 ounce glass with an afternoon snack.
I just started using it this past week. From my own lifestyle and other considerations, I have modified the instructions somewhat in that I take an 11 ounce glass in the morning before work and another 11 ounce glass in the middle of the afternoon. It seems to be working and working very well for me. My energy level has increased substantially already and I have seen visible results as far as a lot of yucky crud coming out in my urine. I have very great expectations for future results. Note: The first two days, I took my second glass at around 5 pm. My sleep the first two nights was almost non-existent and I moved that 2nd dose to no later than 2:00pm as a test. I have been sleeping MUCH better since that change. Whatever effect it has on the metabolism can really screw you up if you take it too late in the day. Anyway, since that change, so far, so good; things are definitely looking great! Please bear in mind that the above referenced links are there for you to use ONLY if you are seriously interested. I have absolutely NO purpose here in advocating anything - it's all totally up to you. Disclaimer: If you go to the Life Extension link and join and/or order anything, I do not make a penny. On the other hand, the Holy Tea Club will give me a commission on anybody joining or ordering through my link. IF I can arrange the logistics satisfactorily, I will refund my commission in whole or in part (whichever is easier for me) to any Aspen Post readers who do business there. That previous statement should completely nullify any thoughts that I might be trying to profit from this post - I'm not - just trying to get some good information out there to those who want to use it.
Merry Christmas! HAPPY NEW YEAR! Later.......
