Jack and Bonnie have been members here few quite a while. They have been very active in the Aspen community and have been role models to all on what it truly means to live the Aspen Life! They have been committed to their own health and wellness by taking Pialtes and personal training sessions and their dedication to their fitness program is setting the precedent for healthy living.

On November 4, 2008, Americans step into voting booths with two choices: Barack Obama will take us out of the Iraq War, but he will give amnesty to 20-30 million illegal aliens. In other words, he will legalize and give voting rights to an invading armada of people from a foreign country. Additionally, he will continue chain migration, 400,000 anchor babies and their mothers annually, diversity visas and double legal immigration from one to two million annually. That means America’s borders will suffer relentless immigration for another four years. Why? He already voted for exactly those items with S.B. 1639 in June of 2007.
John McCain promises to continue the Iraq War forever and he will give amnesty to 20-30 million illegal aliens. Additionally, he will continue chain migration, 400,000 anchor babies and their mothers annually, diversity visas and double legal immigration from one to two million annually. Again, that means America’s borders will be overrun for another four years. Why? He already voted for S.B. 1639 in June of 2007.

The Sheriff's Office's don't ask-don't smell drug policy is hardly worth talking about any more--what more can you say about drug-induced law enforcement fade-to-black ops?--but heretofore Sheriff Bob has insisted without surcease that his guys and gals keep do a bang-up job on the highways and byways of Pitkin County. So it is with some glee that critics of said Sheriff (that would be me) saw the front page story this week that lionized the Wyatt Earp of The New West for bodaciously increasing the number of traffic arrests in 2007 compared to 2006.

Garnish Cafe
The Garnish Café is located inside the Aspen Club. No, you don’t have to be a member and don’t worry about parking because there is plenty of free parking! We were met by Clark Church the Chef and Owner of Garnish Café. I can’t remember the last café I ate at in Aspen that I had contact with and was served by the owner of the place. If you are looking for a healthy place to eat, this is it. There were many options for a vegetarian and others who want to eat right. The portions are perfect with lots of vegetables. I had the Asian salad (Napa Cabbage, Julienne of Carrots, Edamame, Water Chestnuts, Toasted Almonds, Orange Segments, Sesame Vinaigrette $10), which I thoroughly enjoyed! I liked the crunchy element the water chestnuts and toasted almonds added to the salad. I also tried a small serving of “Church’s Chowder”, which was delicious. The Garnish Café is a serene restaurant that has great service, food, and plenty of parking. All of those things are becoming harder to find in Aspen. Served by the chef and in and out without a parking ticket!

The temptation to dismiss the latest entrance of Ralph Nader into the 2008 Presidential race is all but overwhelming, and I admit my first instinct is to let fly with an indecipherable curse that ends in the sigh: “Not again.”

I had the good fortune to go to Social, the new Aspen restaurant on East Hopkins Avenue, on opening night, but I finally had the chance to return this week with a group of four friends of ours from Michigan. At first, I was concerned we had led our visiting Spartans astray. Social, you see, is based on the Spanish Tapas concept, whereby small dishes are the norm--and these guys like to live LARGE when they're living in Aspen. One time, at Takah Sushi, our visiting host from Michigan ordered a whole fish so big I was looking for the boat. When these guys saw Social had only a couple of big dishes, they started to mumble even as our stomachs were grumbling. I should have known better....

Along with most of you, I hated the idea of paid parking in Aspen. Years ago, when our politicians rolled out the ridiculous concept of parking meters all over our beautiful little mountain town, I thought it was about the dumbest idea I ever heard. However, it turned out that I was dead wrong. The parking meters have worked as planned. They freed up spots by discouraging unnecessary use and encouraged residents to walk, bicycle or take the bus when possible.

Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that chain-smoking Barack Obama cannot solve America's deep-seated and systemic afflictions. Further evidence shows that John McCain cannot and will not save America from its claptrap Iraq War, but instead, will continue it indefinitely. Neither man will secure America's borders, but instead, give everyone a free pass into this country—thus flooding it with endless millions from around the world.

When Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and initiated the arduous, too-long-in-coming eradication of Jim Crow laws, I was four years old. Whether a part of my nature or a function of the ideas poured into the blank slate of my nascent mind, as far back as I can remember the idea of owning another human being has been as much of an anathema as the idea that skin color is a basis for a meaningful difference...

Today I attended the Energy Forum and Expo in Grand Junction Colorado. Located in the heart of Western Colorado’s massive energy boom the energy titans were all represented. The event tended to point out the reality of the existing energy industry which is nearly all fossil fuel based. However there were a few renewable energy Representatives there as well.
