“…Ms. Josefowicz's musicality is as dazzling as her technique.”― Allan Kozinn, New York Times

Closing the Aspen Music Festival and School’s 2008 winter music series on March 10 is Leila Josefowicz, a violinist who has won the hearts of audiences around the world with her honest, fresh approach to the repertoire and her dynamic virtuosity. Josefowicz will be joined by international concert pianist John Novacek. The program includes Brahms’s Scherzo in C minor; Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata in F minor, op. 80; Stravinsky’s Duo concertant for Violin and Piano; and Schubert’s Rondo brilliant in B minor, D. 895, op. 70.

“Leila has a reputation world-wide for playing with great passion and total connection with the music,” says AMFS President and CEO Alan Fletcher. “This is her debut performance with the Festival, and we’re sure Aspen will embrace her as one of our own.”

Josefowicz came to national attention in 1994 when she made her Carnegie Hall and her recording debuts with Sir Neville Marriner and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and has since appeared with many of the world's most prestigious orchestras and eminent conductors. Subsequent releases include Solo, a disc of unaccompanied violin works by Bartók, Kreisler, Ysaÿe, Ernst and Paganini; Bohemian Rhapsodies, a collection of virtuosic violin works with orchestra; For the End of Time and Americana with pianist John Novacek; and the Mendelssohn, Glazunov and Prokofiev concertos with the Montreal Symphony, Charles Dutoit conducting.

A regular, close collaborator with leading composers of the day such as John Adams and Oliver Knussen, Josefowicz is a strong advocate of new music ― a characteristic which is reflected in her diverse programs and her enthusiasm for premiering new works. During the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons, she will premiere violin concertos written for her by Steve Mackey (with the BBC Philharmonic and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra) and Colin Matthews.
