Watch out for valley landlords

Boy, what a tale I have to tell and only a few more minutes online; at least for now.
In January, my roommate and I received notice that our lease was to expire without being renewed. We even had it in writing that the lease "...expires on March 1st at noon..."
On or about the 6th or 7th of February, my roommate told me she had received a phone call from the landlord where she was told that we were expected to be out by the 15th. I asked if she had agreed to that. She said "No, I didn't agree to anything. He just flat out told me that was how it was."
I was tense for awhile expecting some sort of confrontation. We couldn't possibly clear out until the 23rd as my last working day was the 22nd. It (the confrontation) didn't happen until the 21st. The landlord walked right through the front door knocking as he actually came through the door and exclaimed in surprize "Oh, you're still here. You have to be gone NOW!" My roommate was shaken, but managed to say "We can't leave until Saturday". She was told to be out no later than Friday! It's a very good thing for him that I wasn't there.
Anyway, we got the U-HAUL truck on Friday afternoon and left Saturday night. We made it to McKinleyville, CA by Tuesday morning. We stayed for a short while with her son and grandkids, but I had to get out soon after and am now staying in a cheap motel (paying by the month) in Eureka. A brand new start; we'll see where it takes me. Hopefully, I'll be employed soon - I do have the ability to do manual labor daily and get paid daily, but I don't want to do that for too long.
I will keep you all updated. Right now, I am using an Internet Cafe computer for $5.00/hour as my computer will be in storage for awhile, but, just like Arnold "...I'll be back!"
