Friday March 21, and Saturday March 22, 2008

The 1st Annual Aspen Women's Health Conference dives into practical applications of the latest health research. The program highlights what important new findings mean to women in their daily lives. From "living greener" to feeding our families (and ourselves) in a better, healthier way, key aspects of healthy mind, body, relationships, and environment will be covered. Join us and learn how to put theory into practice.

Day 1. Hear what leading experts have to say on current topics in women's health.

Day 2. Turn the theory into practice in small, custom workshops.

Friday March 21st
8:30–9:00 Breakfast

9:00–9:30 Opening Remarks

9:30–10:15 Achieving Lean: Get Fit to Live by Optimizing Your Body Composition and Physical Fitness by Pamela Peeke, MD, MPH
Menstrual cycles, pregnancy, perimenopause, and menopause pose challenges to each woman’s quest to achieve and maintain her best body. The key is not jumping on scales and ruminating about total body weight. Current cutting edge science focuses on body composition. Obsessing about body weight is not the goal. Paying attention to the quality and quantity of your body is.

10:15–11:00 Menopausal Hormone Therapy: Who, What, When, Why or Why Not, and for How Long? By Alan Altman, MD

Millions of women stopped taking their hormones in the summer of ’02 because the results of a major study were presented as having demonstrated that ‘hormones were bad for women.’ Now, almost six years later, the main authors admit they may have "misrepresented" the study’s results. Is it any wonder that women are confused and angry? Join Dr. Altman as he debunks the myths and sets the “hormone record” straight.

11:00–11:15 Break

11:15–12:00 Never too Late: Learning to Love the Body You Have by Adrienne Ressler
Historically, women have been defined by their bodies and their looks. As the beauty ideal changes, our bodies are sculpted, buffed, starved, and molded to correspond with the latest trend. Adrienne traces women’s fashions and diet devices through history and explores the cultural influences that shape women’s roles and bodies.

12:00–1:30 Lunch

1:30–2:15 Small Steps to Save a Big Planet By Sara Snow
Climate change, global warming, the inconvenient truth of trends in our environment can be overwhelming. How can individuals, families, and communities respond to such macro events? Sara focuses on the small yet important changes that you can make to positively impact our planet. Sara’s discussion will focus on how individuals and communities are making smart decisions on natural living and green lifestyles.

2:15–3:00 A Healthy Lifestyle for Healthy Women by Robert Vogel, MD
Learn the ten lifestyle essentials that you need to slim down without being hungry. Get back the seven years of life that both men and women lose to heart disease. If you think that cutting carbohydrates is better than cutting calories and that olive oil is better than canola oil, you need to hear this talk. You will learn the real science of lifestyle and heart health from fat molecules to heart attacks.

3:00 Wrap up

Saturday March 22
