For the most part, people in Aspen have no idea when pols behind closed doors are making calls they will pay for through the nose for a long, long time.
This is one of those times, as city officials huddle for the first time to float a plan that would float a bond to pay for affordable housing.
The cost: $200 million with an ultimate cost that will easily approach and even surpass $500 million.

Stuart Brafman: I just did an interview on KAJX about my uncle as a matter of fact. My Uncle Abe came to the United States at age 15 in 1922 from a small town in the Ukraine with his father and two sisters. His mother was killed by bandits shooting up the town. The guy was incredible. Within two years of coming here his father died. He learned the language, got a job in shoe factories, and worked his way through high school. He applied to West Point after just four years and got a grade of 82. The Congressman was ready to recommend him until he realized “you’re not in my district.” That Congressman said: “I made an appointment for a guy who had a 68.” He said: “What about Annapolis?”—but Uncle Abe rejected it. Then he worked his way through the University of Wisconsin engineering school, selling fruit off a wagon in summer to make enough money. The third year he did ROTC in the summer and the family pitched in to get him through his last year. He graduated, got a commission, and was sent to Fort Sheridan, where he soon became the post engineer—he built Fort Sheridan into a major induction center and became a full colonel.

David Walker, the Comptroller General of the United States, recently reported on 60 Minutes that we are headed for an economic train wreck of disastrous proportions. He warned of “catastrophic consequences” and that “the survival of our republic is at stake.” As our economy, our dollar and your way of life crumbles before your very eyes, perhaps you may wonder what is happening.
While Bush and company have knowingly advanced the process, it has taken almost a century to bankrupt America. The train wreck has not happened by chance, it is a skillful strategy. The “War on the Middle Class” is waged to divide America into two economic classes, the rich and the poor. The end game is to destroy our democracy. Look around, our Constitution lies in tatters, freedoms lost, perhaps forever.

For the past 20 years and today, presidential candidate Barack Obama attended(s) a Chicago church where Pastor Jeremiah Wright rails against our country by stating in his sermons, “Instead of God bless America, I say, God d**** America.”
With the pews packed, Wright’s vitriolic orations ring to the rafters and black American church-goers cheer, clap and sing against their own country. The venom expressed inside those church walls contradicts everything Jesus Christ expressed in his ministry. Jesus called for forgiveness, understanding, respect and love of your fellow man.
Yet, in the United States, a country populated by people from over 100 countries, Wright condemns everything American.
