Sustainability From Chef Dava Parr

June 29th, 2008 at 06:17pm Chef Dava 63

Hello Friends,

We have a good box for you this week and some new recipes, let's
hope! We have Cherries, Potatoes, Onions, Salad Mix, Tomato,
Cilantro, Garlic, Kale, Romaine Lettuce, Sugar Snaps and Snow Peas.
Wahoo! It's looking like summer! I think it will be one more week on
one size box and then next week we will have enough food to split
into half and full size. I may change my mind on that during pack
out, we will see.

I have started buying coffee from Mountain Phoenix Roasters in
Salida, Colorado. they are a small company trying to stay sustainable
and sell locally and they roast some great fair-trade beans from
around the world. Respond to the e-mail if you want to try some. I
have a Rwandan Bean on special this week for $11.99 and a Mexican
Roast for $10.99 per pound. I like both of them, bet you will too and
you will be helping coffee growers and a small thoughtful Colorado
based company stay in business with your purchase.

Flowers are lovely this week! Here is what our grower Ashley has to
say about her blooms:

"Flower lovers everywhere: this week we have a lovely arrangement of
Siberian Iris, Saponaria, Snapdragons, and Calendula Flowers or
Shasta Daisy, just to name a few. We are not far away from the famed
Sunflowers AND this week we have an extra offer of the sweetest
smelling Sweet Pea Nosegay you'll ever smell for next to the bed, the
bathroom, or on the table. A special offer for a limited time (until
they stop bloomin') at $10 each. The Queen Bee is the same price as
always, and don't forget that if you get Twelve or more as a
subscription you get LOTS of percs, See the Website for more info!"

I am doing a workshop in Paonia at the Farmhouse for you with
children. A Farm to Table workshop that will have us out harvesting
the vegetables and then into the kitchen to cook it up. Children ages
4-15 if possible. Kids are $35 and Parents are $60. Class is 9am to 1
pm, Wednesday, July 9th. Sign up online please or email me.

Downvalley Delivery is on Thursday the 3rd this week, I don't want to
miss Cherry Days in Paonia. Come on over!
