SST Chronicles: A Day In These Times
October 4th, 2008 at 09:14pm Mitch Mulhall 171
I slept in a half hour this morning. Got out of bed at 6:30 am and read the paper while everyone else slept. At 7:00, I woke my son and cooked him breakfast. He had to be at the ski swap at 8:00.
While my son worked the ski swap morning shift, I returned to town to coach my U8 soccer team. After my late arrival, my team managed to pull off a win. I got back home at 10:15 and did a half-hour's work cleaning up the car. At 10:45, it was back to the elementary school fields for my daughter's soccer game. The coach of my daughter's team asked me to referee the match, which I did with some difficulty. It's hard to referee a game your daughter's playing without shamelessly home-towning the opponent, but I managed anyway.
No sooner than I blew the final whistle than I was off to Orrison Distributing to work the balance of the afternoon at the ski swap. I was due at noon, but got there late with a bag of my son's soccer gear. He'd worked the morning at the swap and had a friendly match with Aspen at 2:00 pm. While I swiped credit cards, he and his teammates fell 2-nill. When he returned, he continued helping out at the check-out counters.
Being a parent means signing up for an undisclosed, blistering pace. I'm not writing to complain, mind you, but to keep things in perspective.
Tomorrow I'm getting up at 4:30 am to cook a hearty breakfast. I'm thinking country potatoes, green onions, and garden-grown tomatoes smothered with a light topping of cheddar cheese, orange juice, and tea. I put my son and his friend to bed tonight at 8:00 pm. Tomorrow, they will attempt to climb Mt. Sopris with their ski team coach, John Bresnitz, and Glenwood native Bill Kimminau.
Will they make it?
I think they will.
Cheers,
