Guarded Optimism

In this country there are enough demographically identified people classified as white to vote based on merit. This may be a tipping point for a hallowed future. Obama's election is a quantum leap of light years in a socio-political sense. People who deserve jobs may now start getting the OPPORTUNITY to get them and even to fail a few times and be given another chance elsewhere. It is nice to see people such as Michael Coniff and B. Jon Traylor people that I know who have mentioned either a fear of people of color or used dreaded racial epithets in the past, knowingly evolve into Americans -- not simple "white people." It is also nice to know that there are others joining the legions of evolving people who find it more important to be Americans than "white people." Along with that evolution there is the likely embrace of inclusion by merit regardless of what you look like.
Despite this evolution there are still the the demographic inheritors of the A.I.P of 1968 and George Wallace with us. Anyone reading Wooldrige's recent blog or Hubbell's whining complaints can understand this. Lack of opportunity doesn't mean your IQ is on par with a field of geraniums. One must ask what did these individuals do with the opportunities they had compared to the opportunities of the football players. How many second and third chances did these individuals get? What did they inherit? Did they actually have to climb a ladder of opportunity or were they pulled up?
The quacking duck sitting out his remaining time in the oval office, illustrates perfectly what I am getting at. There are probably 50,000,000 people in this country who could have done a better job than this stooge. But for some he was "white" and that is enough.
As far as keeping good company, I'll take the field of geraniums.

Well done, my friend. And I agree, its the onnice of all mankind to educated themselves and make their own choices in life. Within weeks in the 7th grade, that brother of another color and I became very good friends. And I call him one of dearest friends to this day. I've talked to Patrick about you, Troy. He wears a Scarlet L on his chest, and might give your butt a run for the money in the liberal department! Good stuff, Ed, keep 'em coming...

Ed,
It struck me as I watched Obama give his acceptance speech that now African Americans must truly be seen as Americans. I think too many whites considered blacks as second class citizens still even in 2008, even after emancipation and civil rights. In the minds of many, black people were the descendents of slaves, brought to America against their will, and after a long struggle given the rights of Americans, but they were never really truly Americans…until now.
The logic cannot be denied. The president is the foremost American, the president is black, therefore black is American. No more denial, no more excuses. We are ALL simply Americans, period. Hurrah for Obama, and hurrah for you Ed. Hurrah for all of us!

Thank you my friends. This country is in the worst quandary in a long time; WWII, Great Depression, Civil War all come to mind. The latent and endemic bigotry as bad as it is, is a mask for deeper economic troubles the bigots refuse to acknowlege and then address. The scape goating bigotry covers the voting based on the pathos of the strong silent simple minded morons who voted for a party based on one thing they were told through implied rumor; the republican party was for the "white working man." This stupid myth was dismissed by those who wanted the best person in contention for the job. If Barack Obama was an exotic holographic computer program I would have taken my chances over a known recycled failure in action and ideas. I also would have voted for Hillary and possibly others. Thank you both for being Americans of the future now! There is not a moment to waste.
