Government Regulation is Not Socialism

My experience tells me after working for three multinational corporations, a large NYC medical center and as an investigator for the Federal government, where I inspected over 400 companies, that we need government regulations to assure our food supply and other products are safe.
Many of us have seen our retirement savings cut in half.
Would it not have been nice if regulations existed that would have prevented financial institutions from investing in unsound products or prevented them from being available?

Jim Laurence News Roundup

Thursday April 30, 2009
The number of swine flu cases in the U.S. has risen to nearly 110, and it could easily be detected in our area, said local health care experts on Wednesday. No cases in Colorado at this time—but the danger is very real for our area, after the outbreak in Mexico. One death: a two year old, visiting Houston with family from Mexico---and it’s encouraging that the red flags are out and people are paying attention but still….this will be an ongoing threat for some time.

The number of swine flu cases in the U.S. has risen to nearly 70, and while no infections have been detected yet in Colorado, this is a serious health threat demanding the attention of all residents, says Governor Bill Ritter.
There will be a press conference today with local officials charged with providing emergency care in the wake of an outbreak.

SNOW TOO DEEP: SPRING SPLASH WETS WINTER PARK

By Frosty Wooldridge

Each spring, at the closing of the ski season, a sort of corny, crazy, wild and silly malaise overcomes the slopes at Winter Park, Colorado. Early in the morning, the parking lots fill up with characters in costumes ranging from Superman to caterpillars. Tailgate parties sprout out of snow banks! Breakfast becomes a wine tasting fest!

Elaborate snow sculptures attract everyone’s’ eyes such as a snow-island complete with palm trees and diving swordfish. Coconuts, flowered lays and seashells magically appeared on the snow-island. Sure enough, a lady wearing nearly nothing danced to the swaying music of Jimmy Buffet!

Sandi and I buckled into our boots as the sun crested the Continental Divide. Fresh powder the day before gave promise for sweet tree skiing and knee deep glory for the last day of the season. We stood in line at the Pioneer Express six pack lift for a quick ride to the top. From there, we cut through trees and fresh powder to catch the Panoramic Express to the top of 12,065 foot Parsenn’s Bowl.

The Untold Story

Now and then a news story comes along that raises more questions than it answers. This is one of those stories:

New Yorkers panicked at the site of a lowflying Boeing 747, followed by two fighter jets as part of a federal government photo opportunity over lower Manhattan on Monday.

Everyone who heard about this immediately asked themselves, “What were they thinking?” which means that question had to have come up during the planning of this “mission.” The director of the White House military office, Louis Caldera, took the blame, saying; "Last week, I approved a mission over New York. I take responsibility for that decision."

The swine flu outbreak in Mexico has attention worldwide as travelers to that country are feared to have spread the virus. In the U.S. there are almost fifty cases of the strain now, and that is expected to rise, with the center for disease control issuing warnings on prevention while slow distribution begins on an anti-viral drug to combat a worldwide pandemic. The bulk of infections are in New York and Ohio, with a few in Texas and California.

CON GAMES: Studies Show Heritage's Fake Science On The Family

When faith fails, true believers on the political Right can always turn to science. Nowhere is the tactic more egregious than when the Righties need to defend marriage as between a man or a woman--a union that neither gay man nor beast can put asunder.

JANET NAPOLITANO EXAMPLE OF PETER PRINCIPLE: TOTAL INCOMPETENCE

By Frosty Wooldridge

If you cross the border illegally in Mexico, when they catch you, it's instant prison. No excuses. You broke their laws and you pay their price. However, Mexico's citizens think they can thwart our laws and subvert our country with lawlessness.

The United States tolerates over 20 million criminal aliens within its borders. The crime, corruption and degree of lawlessness in dozens of areas grows to staggering numbers and consequences for all law-abiding American citizens.

Yesterday, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said during a CNN interview , "Crossing the border is not a crime per se." Balderdash! The secretary missed the fact that illegal border crossing remains a criminal misdemeanor. USC 8, Sec. 1325(a) says that crossing the border illegally is punishable by up to six months in prison for the first offense. The second time, it’s a felony!

Silver Bullets

Ahh.... There are so many causes to choose or to be against. Filled with passion, many leap right into these causes. "I have to have a purpose," -- many think. Be a part of something and support something "good." Anti-immigration, communism, capitalism, white, black, patriotism, American Christianites, Democrat, Republican -- this can't be rocket science. The plethora of possibilities in the types of causes is limited by the imagination of humanity, humane or inhumane.

The anti immigration crowd's self identity is probably statistically close to being homogenous. Their silver bullet is; stop anyone that doesn't look like us, pray like us, and speak American like us, from the further dilution of our self identified demographic in my country! Yeah! Grab yer pitchfork and drive 'em out!(who needed Einstein or Werner von Braun {or Obama he he he})

The Communists decry the evils of capitalist imperialism. If we could just get rid of the the greedy self serving class inducing capitalists and the nation-states they hide behind. We can kill most of the motivation for productivity and fly our own flag over the entire planet. (Wait, that doesn't sound so good. Any questions why that failed?)
