OK, Professor,Whatever You Say, Professor

Will this be on the exam, professor?

Stanford University professor of History, David Kennedy, was interviewed on Con Games on Thursday, July 30. A few years ago I read Kennedy's Pulitzer Prize winning two door-stopper (857 pages), Freedom From Fear: The American People in Depression and War, 1929-1945. It was quite the all-encompassing read. Professor Kennedy is a prolific and talented historian.

However, Kennedy has been waxing foolishly, erroneously and—dare I say— sophomorically with his pro-mass-immigration comments at the Aspen Institute-sponsored forums for some time now. The institute never-ever has someone from the opposite side of the argument who knows expertly whereof he speaks to challenge Kennedy’s blind claims and false assertions on mass immigration.  Nor was Kennedy challenged for his (by now) cliché-ridded immigration comments on Thursday by Con games host, Michael Conniff, who otherwise doesn’t shy from challenging other of his guests and certainly his callers.

CON GAMES: Five Thousand Dead And Counting

The diabolically compromised view of our sorties into Iraq and Afghanistan begins with the vision of these wars as well worth the loss of “treasure” when compared to more momentous conflagrations. As the number of deaths has ticked away over the years in a trickle of blood and tissue, supporters of invasion and incursion have been more than happy to wave away one thousand soldiers dead—then two and three and even four thousand.

Compared to the great wars—and the 120 million dead from all the wars of the 20th Century—a few thousand casualties can seem like nothing more than a rounding error.

Somehow both the deniers of the dead and the critics of the war managed to all but miss the most recent threshold of treasure spent—the combined deaths of more than 5,000 United States soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Because much of the coverage was veiled beneath the more immediate news that July 2009 had become the deadliest month for U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan, the larger story of our war dead fell through the cracks of the latest news cycle July 20, 2009. In case you’re interested in the details, four Americans killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan helped put us over the top.

CON GAMES: Homeland Infirmity

God forbid.

Should there ever be a terrorist attack in the United States again, then every finger will be pointed at the Department of Homeland Security. Were they not there on the ramparts with the simple mission of keeping us safe? Is Homeland Security not the repository of the best and the brightest—and best practices—when it comes to keeping us secure against a terrorist attack?

There is the real possibility that the Homeland Security Department will miss the necessary clues because they had more important things to do—like prepare for the next hurricane.

INCREDIBLE! Can you imagine driving along a mountain road----suddenly a boulder slams into your vehicle---and you find yourself rolling toward a boiling river in a rainstorm? That’s what happened on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30---when a land rover driven by Ryan Fleming was headed about one mile up the Frying pan road when the rock hit the car---his wife Allyson, and dog Milie---stayed inside the vehicle as it was forced about 30 feet down an embankment and into the Frying Pan River

Marcosthecuban Has Some Better Ideas About Healthcare

Health Care for the Constituents

Our friendly politicians offer up the cliché argument about affordability. Which of course is goofy and paradoxical in that the law of supply and demand would say that if the government forces new demand into the marketplace there’s no way prices will drop.

One thing that makes the american system unique and special is its concern for minority interest. Not ethnic minority in this case, I mean that the will of the majority is not always imposed hard-handedly. To me that means less govt not more govt telling us what to do.
