Real estate: probably one of the top indicators for economic recovery---continues to show improvement---despite dire reports in Garfield county of a record number of property foreclosures---expected to hit 350 by the end of the year-----that exceeds the number of foreclosures in 1985 (when oil shale development in Garfield county hit the brakes).
Terry and Matt Harrington of Chaffin-Light Realtors will be explaining some of the activity this week on local news---stay tuned.
Community Health director for Pitkin County Liz Stark says some vaccine has arrived and will be used to inoculate high risk patients and health care workers this week against the swine flu-------more supplies for the general population will arrive in about three or four weeks-----kids and teens are at greatest risk of getting swine flu….but precautions locally have been intense—only a few cases have surfaced.
A 19 year old man, back country skiing with friend near Copper Mountain on Saturday---was caught in an avalanche. Injuries are serious but health care workers say he’ll recover---after being buried up to his neck.
The 500 foot break in the snow occurred on a trail leading to Leadville—the man’s two companions used their cell phones to call for help---and while waiting---dug him out.
The danger of avalanche is moderate to high throughout the central mountains.
