In the last year, Israel has prevented the Palestinian people from rebuilding their homes, businesses, and infrastructure, causing a humanitarian crisis the likes of which the world has never seen.

Darwin’s restaurant was packed, so we went next door the day after Christmas for the next form of evolution: James Cameron’s “Avatar,” albeit in 2-D, the standard stuff that fills screens to bursting and the stadium seating to capacity. Instead of plush, lush 3-D, we ended up in one of the end-of-civilization screens the Bow-Tie Cinemas keep alive at the frontier outpost of El Jebel, Colorado.
All in all, in other words, the worst possible set-up for a movie set up to break the glass ceiling of film with three-dimensional computer-generated movie-making. Even so, with the deck stacked against it, “Avatar” was much better than good: Cameron—he of “Terminator,” “Aliens,” and “Titanic” fame—has now set the bar so high that Stephen Spielberg and George Lucas will spend the rest of their careers trying to reach the planet Pandora, home to foxy and fierce nine-foot, blue-skinned babes with tails who know how to mate, bro.

Well, fellow locals, we have not seen the last of Charlie Sheen, 44, last seen playing one of the full-blown men on my favorite CBS sitcom, "Two And A Half Men." Unfortunately for everybody, Sheen was last seen in Aspen in a Pitkin County Jail cell Christmas Day, after his arrest for menacing and variegated felony malfeasance, a state of wedded dis-bliss that followed a rocky Christmas morning in a house on East Hallam Avenue near the Aspen downtown core.

The popular ski Train from Denver to Winter Park was to have started up service again this Sunday, but hundreds of skiers may be disappointed.
Amtrak announced on Tuesday, that no firm agreement has been signed with Iowa Pacific Holdings to help with the cost of running the operation.
Iowa Pacific operates a number of summer excursion trains in Colorado—and has been bidding to take over the operation from the Anschutz Company.
A big issue to be resolved before the train can go to Winter Park: staffing; labor costs could nix the deal.
