Basalt Police are still looking for a man who robbed the seven-eleven store at 1230 a.m. on Saturday. The lone female clerk was ordered at knifepoint to hand over money from the register----afterwards she broke his grip and locked herself in the restroom----and made a cell phone call to police.
A surveillance video will aid in the investigation---but no further details about the suspect are being released at this time.
You may remember the plans several years ago to drill for natural gas near the site at Rulison, near Rifle, where in the late 1960’s an underground nuclear test was conducted. That test site has been capped for decades…and energy companies say that it’s possible to drill nearly 80 gas wells in the area without disturbing the radioactive blast site---several thousand feet below the surface.
The Bureau of Land Management agrees, and has approved the project by Noble Energy to go ahead with development ---pending approval by the office of the White River National Forest.
Spring Gulch---the popular Cross country and snow shoeing area west of Carbondale-----is also the site of a sledding hill that’s been the favorite of kids in the area for some time.
But no more-----worries about liability from injury resulting from snow sledding at the hill-----located across the road from the parking lot to spring gulch, has been closed. No trespassing---No sledding signs have been put up by members of the North Thompson Cattlemen’s association---which is responsible for the property.
