The mutually orgasmic chortle of the cognoscenti missed the point about the announcement of the Apple iPad by a citified mile because a preponderance of yappers were obsessed with where said tablet fell in the pluperfect Apple pantheon of digital inamorata.
Was it cellphone or laptop? Would it set the Kindle aflame? Would it render all that had come before pale paleocentric imitations of what was meant to be?
Or is it just a beloved billing mechanism that newspapers, magazines, and movie-makers have been looking for since Indiana Jones found the Holy Grail?
In the rush to slobber over one’s self, the real point of the iPad was either missed or dismissed in a whiff of epic proportions.

Within one hour of skiing Powderhorn in Grand Mesa, Colorado, my wife said: “I love this place.”
This revelation is no small thing in our little world because my new bride—we married in May 2009—had lost her mojo when it came to skiing and I’m the one to blame. She had learned in Ohio before skiing Vermont, and she used to love it, and do it better than well, but as I grew slightly better and much more aggressive I would take her through ungroomed terrain that became the height of her misery and perhaps even a metaphor for our marriage.
After a year or two in Colorado, she stopped getting a pass and literally stopped skiing, with me shouldering plenty of blame for same.

Medical consultaion with your M.D. is recommended with any exercise program.
After your 10 minute warm up, seek a peak effort within the next ten minutes. Do this once a week. If you are engaged in multiple exercises, anerobic components of cross training or weight lifting for example, seek those peaks in only one or two exercises a week. Tri-athletes should look for a peak in only one of their disciplines per week, as an example.
Enjoy your active lifestyle!

Headed to X games—no parking at the Buttermilk site but the buses are running continuously---a lot less hassle to see the events for Winter X games 14---through this weekend.
Our sister station KSNO is providing live coverage with don Chaney at the microphone----check out KNSO online at ksno.net or in Aspen at 103.9 fm…94.9 in the mid-valley….103.5 in Carbondale and Glenwood Springs.
A sign of increasing business in Glenwood springs with the new Residence Inn Marriot hotel expected to open soon----the 124 room in will be open by the middle of February---several dozen positions are available.
KUUR tech question of the week: will the new Apple I-Pad make it as big as the I-Pod? Read about the device online---- of what some are calling an I-Pod on steroids---the I pad will only be able to use At&T service….has no camera-----and cannot use Flash---which enables online video. But the clarity of the I-pad screen—and its ability to carry books in the method of Kindle-----may open new markets.

28 year old Jake Zamansky of Aspen was chosen to compete in the U.S. Olympic men’s race team on Tuesday; he’ll be in his first Olympics, skiing in Giant Slalom on February 21st.
Another local: Alice McKennis, who started skiing as a child at ski sunlight and was coached by five- time Olympian Casey Puckett—was named to the U.S. Alpine Olympic Team on Tuesday. The first Olympics for the 20 year old Glenwood Springs resident has McKennis racing in the Downhill on February 17th.
Both announcements follow the news Monday that Aspen Snowboarder Chris Klug will be competing in his third Olympics this year.
Several members of the Aspen Skiing Company will be working the SIA show in Denver this week----where big screens will air the action from Buttermilk live. The snow Sports industries America convention is the largest industry expo---formerly located in Las Vegas for nearly 40 years.
The city of Denver has an 11 year contract to hold the SIA at the downtown convention center…..the SIA will generate at least 30 million dollars annually in the Denver’s coffers----plus draw thousands of visitors to the area. Industry delegates alone will reach nearly 17 thousand.
Denver was chosen as a new site for the SIA, just before the recession….as Las Vegas became more expensive….and Denver’s performance hosting the Democratic National Convention proved its ability to handle this major event.

The man who is alleged to have robbed Clark’s market in Basalt over the weekend has been identified. 28 year old Jonas Garcia Leon Jr., who worked at the store more than one year ago and who lived only blocks away, was recognized by several employees at the time of the heist, including the clerk who responded “are you kidding?” when Leon, also known as Junior, brandished a handgun and demanded money.
He made off with more than one thousand dollars in cash.
But Police were quickly at the home of the suspect. Leon surrendered without incident, and is being held in Eagle County jail on 15 thousand dollars bond.
Practice runs begin tomorrow at Buttermilk for Winter X games 14. The course is vastly improved since the weekend snow storm.
Chris Klug has been officially invited to the Olympics---after finishing eighth in the final qualifying race in Stoneham, Quebec this past weekend-----it will be the third trip to the Olympics for the 37 year old Aspenite, a liver transplant survivor and organizer of the Summit for Life program—raising money for those needing transplant surgery.

One week to rule them all. ESPN’s Winter X Games 14 comes to Aspen/Snowmass this week (January 28-31). And with a group of newly appointed Olympians, insane features on Buttermilk Mountain, a super stacked lineup of musicians and loads of swag to be given away, there is no doubt this year will be the biggest yet.
Big tricks, big parties, big prizes. Among them, Qittle(TM) is giving away two (2) O-matic snowboards. One board will be given away as part of Qittle’s Swag Friday prizes, where one winner is chosen from those who have entered into Qittle’s ”Live the Dream” contest. The ultimate winner of the “Live the Dream” contest will win a year living in Aspen/Snowmass, however there are weekly winners on each of the Swag Fridays. (For details, go to www.livethedreamaspensnowmass.com)
Qittle will also give out another O-matic board on the weekend through a text to win contest whereby people can enter by texting DREAM to 26469, standard carrier rates may apply. Stay tuned for details of where and when the winner will be announced!
Co-founded by pro snowboarders Todd Richards and Tara Dakides and engineer Jason Kanes, O-matic snowboards (www.omaticsnowboards.com) focuses on “more bang for your buck” and trying to make snowboarding fun for everyone. And it certainly seems to have worked for one of their team riders, Louie Vito (www.louievito.com).
Louie, 21, has just been named one of three U.S. riders going to the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in February, along with Shaun White and Scotty Lago. Louie is also a veteran of this past season’s Dancing with the Stars program on ABC and a pretty cool guy to boot. But before he heads to Canada…Louie will be throwing down double corks on his O-matic board this week in the X Games super pipe.
Shout out to O-matic for providing Qittle awesome boards to give away, to Louie Vito for good times in X Games and Olympics and to Aspen/Snowmass for being an Xcellent place to live, play, work and visit!

By January people where asking the obvious question, the question they've asked before under different circumstances: where in the world is Pitkin County Sheriff Bob Braudis?
One source in local law enforcement said he was in Europe. Another said he'd been gone since Thanksgiving. But as per usual in the Sheriff's tenure, no one seemed exactly sure, and no one in the press seemed willing to ask.
Now we know and the news is not good. The Sheriff was indeed in Europe with his girlfriend, but upon his return he was hospitalized, in serious-enough condition to be put in intensive care in a Denver hospital.

KDNK Community Radio in Carbondale has hired multimedia journalist Mathew Katz. Katz is KDNK’s third full-time employee, joining Station Manager Steve Skinner and News and Public Affairs Director Conrad Wilson.
“We held some think tanks and did some pondering with community members. What emerged is that it is more important than ever for the community to have a voice and a source of in-depth local news on the radio,” said Skinner.

Yes that is right and right wing in case you were wondering. Hiding behind the flimsiest veil of dissipating steam to invoke 1st amendment "rights," (corporate privilege), the Supreme Court found it very important to allow Corporations to purchase adds for or against candidates -- directly. They can't contribute directly to candidates who could then decide how to parse their messages, but better for corporations they will have their own message for you. Labor unions will ba able to do the same however Labor unions are filled with employees of corporations. Who do you think has more money? With much of the electorate comprised of Homer Simpson, King of the Hill, Tea Party mental midgets, does any thinking person have any question how this will play out?
Most of you, even those who think I am way wrong, will be crushed by the corporate purchase of the ignorant vote. This will reduce demand, because the ignorant voters will get paid even less than they are now. Quality of life will suffer, and with ignorance competing against ascendant economies, the mid range (2-5 yrs.) and long term (5-15 years) outlook appears exceptionally bleak. Does any one else think this is potentially catastrophic for the political system? For the future economy? The train has just left the station, with next 20 years of potential on it. Goodbye train. Good night Moon.
