Shopping, Dropping @ Cherry Creek In Denver

"From the Marriott in Cherry Creek," writes Post blogger Michael Conniff, "you don’t have to go far to find anything, including food. There’s a bunch of great places in the building and on the block—including a hip and happening spot called North—but we ventured a few blocks away to Elway’s, the steak place named after you-know-who. Without aforethought, it turned out our experience at Elway’s was in keeping with the shopping theme of the weekend. With a piano bar and plentiful drinks, the restaurant was the epicenter of baby boomers shopping for company, with the up close and personal costumes to match. A couple of drinks and my guess is that a couple of the couples got lucky that night."

Drop, Shop @ Cherry Creek

DENVER, COLORADO—Not in a million years would I have chosen to stay in a Denver hotel in Cherry Creek at the epicenter of American shopping. But given the chance to matriculate at the J.W. Marriott in the heart of shopper’s paradise for a few days, I was willing to embrace the beauty of the concept.

First of all, there’s my fiancée to consider. When I tell her we’re staying in Cherry Creek, the anticipation and excitement is palpable, and not just because we’ll be staying in a place where the person who checks you in takes you up to your room to make sure everything’s copasetic. When it comes to a trip to Denver, for her it’s all about location, and what could be better than a couple of overnights in a place where every conceivable store is right around the corner?

Denver's Toxic Air Brown Cloud

Jerd Smith, excellent journalist for the Rocky Mountain News, wrote a sobering piece, October 18, 2007, “Activists urge stronger CO2 controls”. She reported, “Oil and gas producers, whose activities generate thousands of tons of carbon dioxide annually, should be forced to install new technologies to reduce those emissions, clean air activists said Monday.”

Above her report, a 1996 picture of Denver’s smoggy, toxic, thick Brown Cloud blanketed the skyline. This past summer, that same air pollution failed Environmental Protection Agency tests for too much ozone. In other words, cars, trucks, homes and industry create toxic air that each of us breathe every second of every day of our lives in Denver.

America, "The People," need to fix it....

You don't always have to share much subtstance to share the truth.

Anyone who has ever served in a significant combat mission knows that there are essentially three rules of engagement/combat. Know your target; secure your perimeter, and have an exit strategy.

In Iraq we knew our target, based upon numerous (later known) false assumptions. We drove into Iraq, fought off enemy fire, and surrounded, then overthrew Baghdad and toppled Sadaam's statue. We later found Saddaam in a hole in the ground.

Drive By Media, 3 Bad Apples & Aggieland

Recently, Brian Ross of ABC News blogged and produced a piece for ABC TV, and on Good Morning America regarding a very racially charged incident at Texas A&M University. Three students were involved in videotaping a "home video" depicting three white males. Two dominant white males were shooting the video and commanding the submissive white male, complete with a black latex mask on his face, to do as they said, etc. I've seen the video and it is rather well, stupid. Yet, I can also see how the video is being construed as being very nastily racist.

CON GAMES: How The West Won Out

The West has finally won out.

How else to explain what I was feeling as I looked out the tenth floor window of the JW Marriott Denver at Cherry Creek, with the carpet of the Rocky Mountains stretched out along the horizon like a sentinel. In the days and weeks just past, I had returned to my past--to New York, Boston, and Vermont--I had gone East, my friends, and found that there was nothing left back there for me.
