The day Marilyn Marks has been waiting for has finally arrived. "Judge James Boyd of the Ninth Judicial District Court will hear the case March 22-23 and is expected to make a ruling on whether the digital ballot images should be released so Marks can review them for what she says are auditing purposes." reports Carolyn Sackariason. "In the meantime, lawyers on both sides are arguing whether officials with Maryland-based True Ballot Inc. — the administrators of the election and the tabulators of the results — should be deposed. The city's motion for a protective order asking the judge to disallow testimony from True Ballot staff should be denied, argued Marks' Denver-based attorney, Robert McGuire, in a filing last week."

"The next time there is a landmark case," writes Post blogger Ed Troy, the Liberal Gladiator, in comment #9, "just for fun and laughs why don't we make a justice by justice prediction on how they will vote."

"I don't see how you can view this as a partisan adjudication," writes Post blogger Mitch Mulhall to Ed Troy in comment #8. "SCOTUS cannot consider evidence that has not already been introduced in lower courts. The questions they consider are narrow."

Does it make sense to taxpayers for 400,000 pregnant mothers to break across America’s borders annually—and birth their babies into instant citizenship in the United States? Is it fair for American taxpayers to pay for those births in hospitals via the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA)? Does it stand to reason that taxpayers must then pay for those children to enjoy 13 years of schooling at the expense of our children? Does anyone realize that the costs run into the billions and trillions of dollars over the decades?

I spent some time at the Assessors office trying to understand the best approach to what we can do about the huge property tax increase.
There seem to be two issues of concern in the tax increase.
Part One - We all received high assessments on our homes because the sale prices were very high. Even the sales in 2007 and the second half of 2006 are "assumed" to be high since the sale prices in 2008 were very high. The earlier sales were reevaluated up to match the overall increase in sale prices. It is hard to argue this. You have the right to file an appeal. It must be done by June 1st. It doesn't look like any of us will be successful with that because it is all based on the actual sales and is done according to Colorado law.

When I heard that Rick Warren was chosen by President-Elect Obama to give the inaugural prayer, I was disappointed. Not only had gay couples just suffered an round-house right to the jaw in California. It seemed as though Mr. Obama was taking his "post-partisan" divide crusade into tone-deaf territory.
I thought it ill timed at best, and that the PE was giving a spotlight to a man who is on the "wrong side of history." I was relieved to learn later on, that Pastor Rick was only one of several ministers who would pray for our new president, and that his place in the que was not singular, or even first.
In the end, I missed Rick. I was empaneled as a juror, but we were given an unprecedented 2 hour 15 minute break to watch the historic inauguration, alas, Rick's moment had come and gone when I arrived in the State Supreme Court Building at 60 Center Street with it's massive rotunda, and watched with about 150 other citizens the (first-take) swearing in.
