What do Chris Klug and Michael Fox have in common? Almost nothing--except that they are two of the better-liked people in Aspen, a notoriously tough town. But they are also teaming up with Emoo.com to make the Chris Klug Foundation the beneficiary of the first "Tuesdays with Michael" at the Aspen Club and Spa this coming week. EMoo.com has committed to donating $1 to the Chris Klug Foundation for every NEW registered user on eMoo.com with the reference to KLUG in the 'affiliation code' on the registration page. eMoo.com Roaring Fork Valley is a locally owned and operated free online platform where people of all ages can buy and sell goods and services. "The Music Fest’s board chair Rob LeBuhn got the heave-ho this week when a majority of the board said he had to go." writes Post blogger Michael Conniff. "His walk down the gangplank follows the unforced departure of longtime Music Director David Zinman. The winner and still champeen on the Castle Creek Campus is CEO Alan Fletcher, a composer who took the brunt of criticism for layoffs and cutbacks actually mandated by LeBuhn and the board. Remarkably, Fletcher was actually fired by LeBuhn and the executive board—before the full board reinstated him. When Fletcher was fired, the staff was so upset that everyone cried. I know, because my wife works there in public relations, and she was crying too. When he won the latest round Monday the staff toasted him with champagne."

In a stunning development, the Aspen Music Festival and School voted out board chair Rob LeBuhn and immediately offered Music Fest CEO Alan Fletcher a two-year contract extension, which Fletcher indicated he will accept. The vote and the extension come after a dramatic battle for months on end that included LeBuhn, Fletcher, Music Fest faculty, outspoken patrons, and Music Director David Zinman, who resigned. "In Alan we have a man of great strength and vision who can lead this institution into its next era of greatness," said acting board chair Mike Murray." He enjoys broad support among our patrons, board members and national council as well as among the volunteers, staff and the Aspen community. We are pleased that he will continue as our leader and we stand behind him as we work to resolve our differences and move toward a brighter future.”

The Aspen Music Festival and School announced today that Rob LeBuhn will step down as board chair, effective immediately. This action is the result of a majority vote taken during a 3-hour-long special meeting of the board held today. In the immediate term, AMFS board vice-chair Mike Murray will serve as chair until the full 48-member board can convene to elect a new chair. The next regularly scheduled board meeting is June 29. The festival season begins July 1.
In the same meeting, the board voted to offer president and CEO Alan Fletcher a 2-year contract renewal, through September 2012. Fletcher has indicated he will accept the offer.

Energy programs, news and general communications via mobile
Aspen, CO (4/10/2009) –Energy Outreach Colorado is now using mobile as a “green” way to get their message out to consumers and donors.
EOC is the only independent, non-profit organization in the state that raises money to help limited income Coloradans afford home energy. They will be using Qittle’s mobile services to reach more Colorado residents who might need energy assistance in their homes.
“As an organization we are excited to be working with Energy Outreach Colorado. The good work they do for the people in the State of Colorado, helping people get through tough times, educating consumers about energy efficiency opportunities and making our State greener is something we’re passionate about,” said Casey McConnell, CEO of Qittle.
Since 1989, EOC has distributed about $100 million to fund energy bill payment assistance, energy efficiency upgrades for affordable housing and non-profit facilities, energy efficiency education, and advocacy on behalf of low-income energy consumers. EOC relies on private donations, corporate contributions and foundation grants. http://www.energyoutreach.org
“We look forward to working with Qittle to reach more people who can benefit from our energy programs and support our mission of helping all Coloradans be able to afford home energy,” said Skip Arnold, executive director at Energy Outreach Colorado. “With Qittle’s assistance, we hope to provide as many Coloradans as possible with access to the new energy technologies available today.”

Can’t think of the perfect gift for that “hard to shop for” person or the one who already has everything? Perhaps you want to promote a less materialistic tradition and participate in the season of giving in a more meaningful way.
Consider giving an environmentally or socially conscious gift by donating to charity on behalf of someone else. A certificate provided by the charity, or one you make yourself states the amount donated and ideally what the money will be used for, i.e. fifty Christmas dinners, twelve warm coats, or preserving an acre of rainforest.
You can even tailor the gift or charity to the person on whose behalf you are donating. For the teacher: a donation to a non-profit that provides educational materials, teacher training, or the building of schools in poverty stricken areas. For the avid cyclist: an organization that provides bicycles for transportation to people in remote locations. For the animal lover: a gift to an animal rights or preservation group. For the health care professional: a donation to a medical relief charity, or one that provides mosquito nets to malaria affected regions. For the gardener: a gift of seeds, agricultural training, or irrigation equipment to disadvantaged rural populations. With so many needy people worldwide, there’s a charity to satisfy everyone’s interests.
To get you started, here are a few online organizations to check out.
Alternative Gifts International
The global mission of AGI is to send authentic, life-giving gifts to a needy world--gifts that build a partnership with people in crisis and that protect and preserve the earth's endangered environment--to nourish and sustain a more equitable and peaceful global community.
How AGI works; Choose a gift from 38 life-sustaining, worldwide projects to honor family and friends. Select a gift card for your honoree and tell us what you want it to say. The card will be mailed to your honoree with an insert describing your gift.
AGI wants you to know that for the cost of a hair cut you can provide one children's book shared by hundreds in a year in Mexico. For the cost of a CD player you can provide one day in-hospital stay for one patient in Egypt. For the cost of a 30 minutes massage you can buy one share of environmental solution in Haiti. For the cost of an iPod video you can provide education for one child for one year.
Christmas Spirit Foundation
With your donations, Foundation programs support children, families and the environment. Programs include: developing online curriculum for teachers, contributing to camps that host underprivileged or ill children, hurricane relief, recycling programs and Trees for Troops.
Oxfam
How would you like to give a camel, goat or donkey for Christmas? Talk about going Biblical! Among other unusual gifts, from outhouses to attorney services, Oxfam provides life-sustaining livestock to impoverished rural families.
A charitable donation this Christmas season is a wonderful way to share the spirit of love and hope. It’ll make you feel good, make the person you’re donating on behalf of feel good, and best of all, fulfill a need for a worthwhile cause.
Happy inspired giving.
