CON GAMES: Is Aspen Post Anti-Semitic?

“Some of my best friends here are in fact Jewish,” blogs Michael Conniff, who counts menschs among his personal constabulatory, “but I have driven a good chunk of them crazy in the last two weeks by simply doing nothing. As the proprietor of Aspen Post, the local blog, and the founder of Post Time Media Inc., its parent, I have been called anti-Semitic and much worse in this last fortnight, all because I refused to shut down bloggers who were sympathetic to the Palestinians and critical of Israel.” Michael believes the reason he is misunderstood by his Jewish friends is “because they don’t understand what a blog is in the first place.”

Abortion And The Catholic Church

"What the heck," writes Post blogger Frosty Woolridge. "Let’s cause the Pope an Excedrin headache the size of a pumpkin throbbing around his temples."

CON GAMES: Eye Of The Needle

Pause here for inevitable Biblical reference: "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Matthew 19:24

So here's my thinking: the entrance to Aspen is literally the eye of the needle. Why else would we routinely refer to this place as "Paradise" and remind each other that we are truly in heaven. But I'm going a step further by saying Aspen is literally the "kingdom of heaven," and that those of us who pass through the eye of the needle, for whatever reason, have to be considered rich beyond all reason in a Paradise not of our own making.

Religion - Part 3

In continuing with the previous post, it definitely is obvious to me that the powers that be in the universe even put up contingency plans to make sure that we do pass on when it is our time to go.

Religion - Part 2

It is indeed my feeling that we are all spiritual beings sent here for what we can glean from experiencing life on this mundane plane to help us evolve as beings. Kathryn Preston and many others have proffered the idea that we pick out our own situation before we come here. In Kathryn's example, a being felt that she needed to work some more on humility and asked another "friend" to incarnate with her to be her abuser to help her out with the lessons on humility. This whole thing seems a bit ironic considering the human adage of "You can't choose your parents". Apparently, you can and DO!

Personally, I cannot vouch for the idea of picking our own situations nor can I deny that it might happen. Whether we pick our own or have them assigned to us, I do have a sense that we are definitely here for a reason and we have an overwhelming need to accomplish that reason.

Hitchens v. D'Souza on the Problem of Christianity

I watched Christopher Hitchens debate Dinesh D’Souza last weekend on the subject of “Is Christianity the Problem” (of "what?" is anybody’s guess; the answer "everything" is likely the premise). You can see this debate on Youtube. The video lags behind the audio, but if you can get over that irritation, it’s worth at least a listen.

Hope, Faith, and Conviction

By Amanda Boxtel

As I venture forth as one of the pioneer patients receiving human embryonic stem cell therapy I realize more and more that Dr. Geeta Shroff is at the eye of a global controversial storm and I am at the dawn of an age of discovery that will forever change the world.

Since landing on American soil two months ago, I have found myself spiraling into a whirlpool of emotion. While sometimes spinning out of control, those intense emotions collided with an influx of stem cell information causing deep anxiety on all levels. As scientists and researchers speak of worldwide collaboration in stem cell research, I have witnessed outright ridicule for those blasted as radicals experimenting with new therapies in other countries. Egos abound and I am more perplexed. I am left feeling disheartened and surprised by negative responses to what scientists deem people like me to be desperate patients in search of stem cell tourism and miraculous unsafe trea tments abroad. This world is cutthroat. I have come to understand that objective or factual science is inherently influenced by varying degrees of subjectivity or individualized opinions. Respected authorities seem to have adopted a dogmatic system of beliefs and will accept nothing but hard core scientific evidence, frowning upon those who have the courage and audacity to step out of the box and make quantum breakthroughs with clinical trials.

My views on religion - the main theme

God, God Almighty, Jehovah, God of my heart, the Holy Ghost, the Holy Spirit, Cosmic Consciousness, the Universe, Buddha, Vishnu, Allah - these are all human attempts to name the spiritual energy which permeates the Universe(s). The innate drive within humanity to find out what he/she/it is and to connect with it is the basis of religion. The irony here is that, through religion, man is seeking to connect with something deemed much greater than himself when in fact, he/she is actually trying to connect with himself/herself - the aspect of which is on a higher plane of conciousness. In spiritual terms, we are sent to this planet/plane to experience life on a "denser" plane and so improve and evolve on a spiritual level. The game is here.

My Views On Religion - Introduction, My Background

This post is not absolutely necessary to the understanding of my future post(s) on religion, but may very well be interesting reading in how (or why) I put it all together the way I did. Please note that if you are anywhere from being reasonably devout in your chosen faith to the extreme of being a fanatic, it is virtually guaranteed that you will have extreme difficulty in getting through this post or any of the following posts on this subject. It is therefore HIGHLY recommended to avoid reading this and subsequent posts unless you actually have an open and inquisitive mind regarding religion and/or spiritual things.

BELIEF

This is an interesting conversation. An atheist professor of philosophy speaks to his class on the problem science has with God, The Almighty. He asks one of his new students to stand and…

Prof: So you believe in God?

Student: Absolutely, sir.

Prof: Is God good?

Student: Sure.

Prof: Is God all-powerful?

Student: Yes.

Prof: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to God to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But God didn't. How is this God good then? Hmm? (Student is silent.)

Prof: You can't answer, can you? Let's start again, young fellow. Is God good?

Student: Yes.

Prof: Is Satan good?

Student: No.

The Flip Side

Let's suppose, as Denise Linn did in "The Secret Language of Signs: How to Interpret the Coincidences and Symbols in your life," that I am a soul existing on another level of consiousness (before being birth into the material, earthly plane), and in all objectivity, my soul realizes that I need to learn humility in order for my soul to evolve to a higher level of consciousness. To this end, I engage another soul who is particularly loving toward me, saying, "I need to learn humility. Will you incarnate with me on Earth and play the role of my abuser?" This scenario suggests that we have an existence prior to our earthly existence, and that we actually choose our roles, circumstances, and experiences on Earth before we ever hit that portal known as the female womb, the gate-way to human life.
