With three million people added to the USA every year, Post blogger Frosty Woolridge wants Presidential candidates to wake up and smell what's at stake.

Post blogger Mike McGarry, co-founder of the Colorado Alliance for Immigration Reform, is keeing a watchful eye on legislation in New York state that would allow illegals state identification. "Let me start out by thanking New York State Assemblymen Jim Tedisco and Greg Ball for their leadership in convening this hearing," he blogs, "to hopefully avert the implementation of policy that would represent a serious threat to national security and an egregious violation of law. I have been working closely with Assemblyman Ball over the last year or so, to help him to combat the immigration crisis on a local level, within the communities he represents."

Aspen Life blogger Asia Jenkins has spent five years teaching ski conditioning and she knows how to get ready--or not. "With winter around the corner," she blogs, "it’s time to start thinking about getting your body ready for ski season. I have taught ski conditioning on and off for the past five years and I am consistently hearing the same question from clients: 'How do I get my body ready to take a ski conditioning class?' Going from zero to 60 in 10 seconds is OK for a car, but our bodies need a little bit more of a warmup. Pulled hamstrings and twisted ankles are no way to start the ski season. Those who did not do much physical activity this summer except maybe a couple hikes may want to get their heart rates up before the first class."

Spent some time over the weekend thinking about the Con Man's passionate push for a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border in an effort to "solve" the immigration crisis. Down in the pit of my stomach, the idea of a border fence festers like the remnants of spoiled milk downed with reckless disregard for the carton's expiration date. In fairness to the Con One, he is not the originator of the idea--just the most recent and most vocal local advocate.
Why does this seemingly practical idea not resonate with me? I may have finally wrapped my arms around the reason why, and it all stems from the constraints of recent human population increases.

You don't always have to share much subtstance to share the truth.
Anyone who has ever served in a significant combat mission knows that there are essentially three rules of engagement/combat. Know your target; secure your perimeter, and have an exit strategy.
In Iraq we knew our target, based upon numerous (later known) false assumptions. We drove into Iraq, fought off enemy fire, and surrounded, then overthrew Baghdad and toppled Sadaam's statue. We later found Saddaam in a hole in the ground.

Recently, Brian Ross of ABC News blogged and produced a piece for ABC TV, and on Good Morning America regarding a very racially charged incident at Texas A&M University. Three students were involved in videotaping a "home video" depicting three white males. Two dominant white males were shooting the video and commanding the submissive white male, complete with a black latex mask on his face, to do as they said, etc. I've seen the video and it is rather well, stupid. Yet, I can also see how the video is being construed as being very nastily racist.

As an eternal optimist, yes, I truly believe we are at what could be a very exciting, yet difficult, crossroads here in American history. Why? Because after WWII, our society has become rather dumb-downed to what is really happening in Washington. Washington grew... and grew, and grew and grew. Society grew and grew. Technology exploded. The cost of living and (sorry, but trade deficits) and inflation and interest rates and much more began to withdraw us from the coffee shops and town hall meetings and caused us to be slaves to the most incredible free enterprise economy in the history of the world -- a system that will eventually bankrupt us, at least those of us without solid financial planners. (But that's another column.)

In the year 2000, snowboarding was the fastest-growing sport in the US, with boarders numbering just over 7.2 million. This article was published by the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 2005.

I don't care if you are Red or Blue. I don't give a flying flip if you are Republican or Democrat. I could care less if you are a Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, Muslim, Jew, Hindu, etc, etc. Why can't we just all agree that we have a very real opportunity here to tap into the scientific options on the table. Via science, we have the opportunity to turn the tide on incurable diseases.

Perhaps it is time for people to rise up and say, "this is my country, that is my government, that party of republicans is not mine... and that party of democrats is not mine, and those choices our President is making are not my choices!"

we could have created a "World Terrorism Eradication Force," a global force that would have indeed spent the last 4-5 years rooting this virus out, in every crawl space and cubby hole and cave throughout the world...

Rifle, Colorado, is named for the weapon that won the old West, but it’s also the place where gubernatorial candidates Bill Ritter and Bob Beauprez had their own public shootout over the hot-button New West issues of immigration and natural gas development.
